Animating the Web: RealFlash

RealNetworks, Macromedia, and Animation World Network are sponsoring the RealFlash Animation Festival. We are including two articles in this issue to introduce the new tool of RealFlash to our readership. RealFlash combines vector-based animation tools to create high quality animation and sync sound, with streaming technology to deliver the animation over the Internet in real time (no more waiting to download!).

RealFlash: The First Step by Pat Boyle & Shelley McIntyre explains the basics of RealFlash and its role in the developing world of entertainment programming over the Internet.

Bill Predmore of POP! Multimedia then details putting RealFlash to work in
How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love RealFlash. By explaining the production strategy he used to create a piece for Warner Bros., he leads us through the RealFlash process.

If you're ready to take a shot at creating RealFlash content, it's not too late to visit the
RealFlash Animation Festival web site to browse the entries and submit your work. Entries are being accepted through April 3, 1998.

Good luck and we look forward to seeing you work on the web.
