Corgi International Named Master Toy License For CG-Animated Film 'Igor'

Corgi International Ltd. has been granted the master license for a product line of toys and collectables for Exodus Film Group's CG-animated feature film, IGOR. The Weinstein Co. is handling the worldwide theatrical release on Oct. 24, 2008.

Corgi Int'l may release a wide range of products, including action figures, play sets, electronic role-play games, pocket money toys, vinyl figures, plush, statues, busts and other associated products.

DreamWorks Animation Gains Ross as New Development Exec

Dream Works Animation has hired former Nickelodeon Movies development vp Damon Ross as a senior development exec. Ross's main duty will be acquiring and developing literary properties as well as original projects. He will work on the day-to-day development of features at the studio with Chris Kuser.

The new DreamWorks exec will report to the studio's head of creative development and production Bill Damaschke and head of development Kristine Belson.

Frank Miller In Business with Raymond Chandler

Graphic novel icon Frank Miller is moving ahead with a feature film project -- this time entering the world of film noir with an adaptation of Raymond Chandler's TROUBLE IS MY BUSINESS novella for Universal Pictures and Strike Ent., reports VARIETY. The project will reunite the 300 author with his SIN CITY star Clive Owen.

Strike partners Marc Abraham and Eric Newman are set to produce with Owen and Phil Clymer exec producing.

Edgar & Ellen Sign Multiple Book Deal

In response to the success of the first six-book EDGAR & ELLEN series, Star Farm Prods. has signed a deal with Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing for an entirely new six-book series, two graphic novels, a pop-up and a how-to book. The how-to book, entitled THE MISCHIEF MANUAL, is written in the voice of the mischief-makers themselves and is in stores this month.

Madame Tutli-Putli Takes Worldwide Short Film Fest

NFB's new stop-motion short, MADAME TUTLI-PUTLI, won the top animated prize at Toronto's Worldwide Short Film Festival. Directors Chris Lavis and Mciek Szczerbowski were awarded the C.O.R.E Digital Pictures Award for Best Animated Short, which comes with a $5,000 cash prize. By winning the festival, the short is now eligible for the Academy Award and Genie Award. In the film, a young woman takes a strange train ride on which she must confront her demons.

Black Book Star Joins Valkyrie

Carice Van Houten, star of Paul Verhoeven's Nazi drama BLACK BOOK, has joined the cast of Bryan Singer's WWII drama, VALKYRIE, according to the trades. The United Artists production also stars Tom Cruise, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Wilkinson.

Based on a true story, the screenplay from Christopher McQuarrie and Nathan Alexander follows plans to assassinate Adolf Hitler.

Singer, Paula Wagner and McQuarrie are the producers. Production is set to start in July in Berlin.

HANA'S HELPLINE, a stop-motion animation series for children, recently launched onto a daily slot on Five's Milkshake in the U.K. wings its way to France 5 to air this autumn. The 26x10 series, created by Welsh-based animation experts, Calon, features the agony aunt helpline service run by Hana the duck, solving the problems of Ellen the ostrich, Bert the bear, Muzzie the mouse and others.

Marc Forster to Direct Bond 22

Signaling a continuation of the character-driven approach introduced by last year's phenomenally successful CASINO ROYALE, Marc Forster (THE KITE RUNNER, FINDING NEVERLAND, MONSTER'S BALL) will direct BOND 22, it was announced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, producers of the James Bond films, Sony Pictures Ent. and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios.

Forster will commence work shortly with screenwriter Paul Haggis on a draft of the screenplay by Neil Purvis and Robert Wade.
