Disney's Gourd Turns Movie Magic Into Game

Walt Disney Studios Asia Pacific's animated feature THE MAGIC GOURD scored $2 million in its second weekend in China and will now be turned into a videogame, reports VARIETY. Walt Disney Internet Group plans to release 15 Java-based mobile games based on the film later in the year.

The CG film's week two receipts were down only 16% over its June 29, 2007, opening weekend.

Monsters vs. Aliens Set to Invade a Week Earlier

DreamWorks Animation's MONSTERS VS. ALIENS has been slated for domestic release on May 15, 2009, one week earlier than the previously announced date. MONSTERS VS. ALIENS, which reinvents the classic '50s monster movie as an irreverent modern-day action comedy, will be the first DreamWorks Animation film produced in stereoscopic 3-D technology. The film is being directed by Conrad Vernon (SHREK 2) and Rob Letterman (SHARK TALE), and produced by Lisa Stewart (I THINK I LOVE MY WIFE).

After six memorable years, the HARVEY BIRDMAN, ATTORNEY AT LAW animated series on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim comes to a close with the final episode to air in a 30-minute special on July 22, 2007, at 11:45 pm.

HARVEY BIRDMAN, ATTORNEY AT LAW helped launch Adult Swim and was part of the first original lineup on the now highly rated late-night network for young adults. The series, which was an instant success and received immediate critical acclaim upon its debut, is now retiring after 39 episodes.

Mr. Nobody Causes Chaos for Leto & Polley

Jared Leto and Sarah Polley have signed onto the romantic, sci-fi drama MR. NOBODY, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Jaco Van Dormael (THE EIGHTH DAY) wrote the script and will direct.

Based on chaos theory, the story set in the near future centers on 120-year-old Nemo Nobody (Leto), the last mortal in a world of happy immortals, as he recalls his years of marriage.

The $40-$50 million film will start production next week and will lens in Brussels, Montreal and Berlin.

Rai Fiction's New Cartoons for Fall

As autumn approaches, new original cartoons from Rai Fiction hit Rai's national networks, as well as those of the two satellite kids channels Rai Sat Yoyo and Smash (with around 20% of these channels' offer consisting of cartoons produced by Rai Fiction). In addition, Rai Cartoon, a daily half-hour slot devoted to cartoons produced or co-produced by Rai Fiction, takes to the air on Rai Gulp, the new public service channel for youngsters that began experimental broadcasts on June 1, 2007, using terrestrial digital technology.
