Original Kong Arrives on DVD

The long-awaited DVD debut of the original KING KONG (Warner Home Video, $26.99 for special edition or $39.92 for collectors edition) arrives Nov. 22, 2005, looking as great as you might expect of a vintage movie whose negative has long since vanished. Superb contrast and clarity are the result of a DVD production two years in the making, and now we can view the uncensored version in all its terror and glory. As Ray Harryhausen suggests in his commentary, this is the first example of an animated character in a starring role the first modern movie monster.

Ride the Polar Express on DVD

THE POLAR EXPRESS DVD hits retail shelves on Nov. 22, 2005 (Warner Home Video, $29.95). The two-disc special edition contains lots of bonus features devoted to the performance capture (Imagemotion from Sony Pictures Imageworks) that was the driving force behind the Robert Zemeckis/Tom Hanks movie adaptation of the popular Christmas tale by Chris Van Allsburg.

Classic Media Sings with Frosty, Swings with Kong

Classic Media is set to release a new animated Frosty the Snowman feature as well as the first two volumes of KING KONG: THE ANIMATED SERIES.

THE LEGEND OF FROSTY THE SNOWMAN DVD ($21.98) is an all-new animated comedy adventure based on the original 1969 television classic. Burt Reynolds narrates the movie and sings the popular title song. In addition, Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants, also stars.

Innamation Films Signs “Fleming” Scribe For Christmas Rescue Rewrite

Innamation Films has hired Damian Stevenson to pen a screenplay re-write for THE CHRISTMAS RESCUE, the Los Angeles animation companys first full-length, direct-to-video feature.

Stevenson recently made headlines for selling his screenplay FLEMING, a biopic on James Bond creator Ian Fleming, to Warner Bros. for an undisclosed sum.

Disney Offers DuckTales and Chip ‘n Dale on DVD

Two of Disneys most popular TV animation series from the 80s, DUCKTALES and CHIP N DALE RESCUE RANGERS are now available on DVD (Buena Vista Home Ent., $34.99). In DUCKTALES VOLUME ONE (1987), cantankerous Scrooge McDuck and Huey, Dewey & Louie find themselves in all kinds of wacky adventures. Alan Young voiced McDuck and David Block and Steve Clark served as directors.

The Revenue Force is With Sith DVD and Battlefront II Game

In just one week of release, STAR WARS: EPISODE III REVENGE OF THE SITH on DVD and the STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT II videogame brought in sales of $210 million in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia and Latin America, capping a record-breaking year for the STAR WARS franchise.

The two newest STAR WARS home entertainment releases debut in four more major international markets through Nov. 23.

Charlie Even Sweeter on DVD

Paramount Home Ent. has greenlit the first feature length production of QUEER DUCK THE MOVIE from four-time Emmy award-winning creator and writer Mike Reiss (THE SIMPSONS, THE CRITIC). The original shorts were broadcast on the Net on Icebox.com and later aired on Showtime.

Warner Home Video Joins UMD Format

Warner Home Video (WHV) will release THE DUKES OF HAZZARD as the first new Universal Media Disc (UMD) release title on Dec. 6, day-and-date with the DVD. Also available on that date will be AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE VOLUME 4 from Cartoon Network.

This will be followed by WHVs second wave of UMD titles on Dec. 20: CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, BATMAN BEGINS, CONSTANTINE, HOUSE OF WAX, THE MATRIX, T3 and ENTER THE DRAGON.
