Ice Age 2 Melts onto DVD in November

20th Century Fox Home Ent. has announced Nov. 21, 2006, as the release date for ICE AGE: THE MELTDOWN, the year's #4 grossing movie with $193.4 million in domestic box office receipts. Nov. 21 is the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, positioning the title for top sales on Black Friday, which is traditionally the biggest shopping day of the year.

"We had tremendous success four years ago with a similar release date for the original ICE AGE,'" said Steve Feldstein, svp marketing communications for 20th Century Fox Home Ent. The first ICE AGE sold more than 14 million units.

Patlabor 2 Lands on DVD

Image Ent. Inc. and Bandai Visual USA Inc. have released the 1993 anime masterpiece PATLABOR 2 THE MOVIE on DVD.

PATLABOR 2 was directed by acclaimed director Mamoru Oshii (PATLABOR THE MOVIE, GHOST IN THE SHELL, JIN-ROH, AVALON), written by Kazunori Ito (.HACK//, AVALON), with music by Kenji Kawai (GHOST IN THE SHELL, AVALON, RINGU).

ADV Launches This Ugly Yet Beautiful World & More

On July 4, 2006, ADV Films will release four new titles, including the launch of THIS UGLY YET BEAUTIFUL WORLD, the third volume of UFO ULTRAMAIDEN VALKYRIE, and a new thin-pack collections of GANTZ SEASON 2 and CYBERTEAM IN AKIHABARA. Venture Bros. Season One Ventures to DVD

Adult Swims first season of THE VENTURE BROS., a spoof of JONNY QUEST, from Noodlesoup Prods., is currently available on DVD (Warner Home Video, $29.98). All 13 episodes from Cartoon Network plus the pilot and Christmas are contained in this two-disc collectors edition featuring the adventures of dim-witted twins, Hank and Dean, who tag along with their scientist father and unsuccessfully try to combat oddball villains. Pink Panther Returns on DVD

Steve Martin steps into the role of bumbling Inspector Clouseau made famous by the late Peter Sellers in this family-friendly remake of THE PINK PANTHER, which recently bowed on DVD (Sony Home Ent., $28.95). Say what you will about the success or failure of Martins wild and crazy interpretation, but the title sequence from Kurtz and Friends Animation is true to form. Underworld: Evolution Rages on DVD

UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION continues the war between vampires and werewolves in director Len Wisemans sequel starring wife Kate Beckinsale. Genius Products & BKN Embrace the Classics

Genius Products has signed a U.S. distribution pact with BKN Intl for 16 animated direct-to-video titles based on classic tales, reports VARIETY. In addition, an all-animal CG version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL will receive a limited theatrical release via SD Intl in November before arriving on DVD later that month.

Other titles will debut between September and the end of 2007 and include ALI BABA AND THE 40 THIEVES and animated retellings of A JUNGLE BOOK, ROBIN HOOD and ZORRO.

FUNimation Ent., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Navarre Corp., has been awarded FULL METAL PANIC: THE SECOND RAID by Kadokawa Pictures USA. FULL METAL PANIC: THE SECOND RAID is the third season in this popular anime series. FUNimation has scheduled Oct. 3, 2006 as the street date for the first DVD.

Laura’s Star Rises on DVD

LAURA'S STAR, the acclaimed German animated feature, directed by Thilo Gruf Rothkirch and Piet de Rycker (THE LITTLE POLAR BEAR), makes its way to DVD Sept. 26 (Warner Home Video, $14.98).

Doogal Makes the Roundabout to DVD

DOOGAL, the second 3D-animated feature acquired by The Weinstein Co., recently found its way onto DVD (Genius Products, $28.95). Like the previous smash, HOODWINKED, the kid-friendly comedy/adventure was recast with American stars. The Pathe production was also retitled and rewritten predominantly by FAIRLY ODDPARENTS creator Butch Hartman, with lots of American movie references thrown in.

Blade Runner: Final Cut to Arrive in 2007 for 25th Anniversary

Warner Home Video has retained long-term rights to Ridley Scott's BLADE RUNNER, reports VARIETY, paving the way for a new FINAL CUT in 2007 in honor of the 25th anniversary of the influential sci-fi thriller based on Philip K. Dick's novel. A limited theatrical release of the FINAL CUT will be followed by a collector's edition DVD containing all four versions of the Harrison Ford-starrer (including theatrical version, director's cut and international version).

Weinstein Co. Launches CG Unstable Fables Video Line

The Weinstein Co. (TWC) is getting more animated with a new brand of direct-to-video CG feature length films, UNSTABLE FABLES, being produced by The Jim Henson Co. (JHC), Flame Ventures and Prana Studios, with screenplays be overseen by Roger S.H. Schulman (SHREK, MULAN II). The new Unstable Fables brand offers irreverent versions of well-known classic tales and incorporate modern twists on the stories. The first titles being produced are based on GOLDILOCKS, THE THREE LITTLE PIGS and BILLY GOATS GRUFF.
