The Incredibles to the Rescue on DVD

When Brad Bird came to Pixar to shake things up with THE INCREDIBLES, he also wanted to raise the bar for DVDs as well, bringing a video camera in tow all through production. Judging from the some of the supplemental material on the fabulous two-disc COLLECTORS EDITION that streets today (Walt Disney Home Ent., $29.99), there were plenty of friendly creative fights. Brad was a great documentarian, DVD producer Ann Brilz told AWN. He wanted to record the experience warts and all. Gathering the material with Brad was an honest, candid look at the production.

Doonesbury’s Duke 2000 Now on DVD

From Garry Trudeau, the creator of the DOONESBURY comic strip, comes this collection of more than 30 computer animated shorts, featuring Duke, the maverick Reform Party candidate for the presidency of the United States. ‘90s Fantastic Four Series Coming to DVD

As a way to cash in on the hype surrounding the July 8, 2005 release of the FANTASTIC FOUR live-action feature, Buena Vista Home Ent. will release a box set of the entire FANTASTIC FOUR animated series, which aired from September 1994 to February 1996. The 30-minute show aired as part of the Marvel Action Hour along with IRON MAN. Produced by Genesis Ent., Marvel Prods., New World Ent. and TMS Ent., 15 of the 26 episodes were direct remakes of episodes of the 1960s Hanna-Barbera FANTASTIC FOUR series. The first season contained introductions by creator Stan Lee.

SpongeBob Movie Swims Ashore to DVD

The SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS MOVIE made a very smooth transition from small to large screen, thanks to director/creator Stephen Hillenburg opening up the series just enough to make it work as a funny and engaging feature. Now you can judge how it will work in reverse on DVD this week (Paramount Home Ent., $19.95). SpongeBob (voiced by Tom Kenny) and Patrick (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke) have their hands full leaving Bikini Bottom in search of King Neptunes stolen crown to save Mr. Krabs and foil Plankton.

Barbie Rides Pegasus In Next 3D Feature

Barbie returns to the small screen in her new original princess fairytale and 3D enhanced animation film, BARBIE AND THE MAGIC OF PEGASUS. Disney Debuts Ghibli Trio on DVD

With the highly anticipated release of Hayao Miyazakis HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE in June, Disney has smartly introduced three more of the legendary directors films to DVD on Feb. 22, 2005 (Buena Vista Home Ent., $29.99): NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND (1984), PORCO ROSSO (1992) and THE CAT RETURNS (1992). All three two-disc sets contain original Japanese versions as well as newly produced English versions with prestigious voice casts, along with notable bonus features.

South Park: The Complete Fifth Season Hits DVD

Those Comedy Central cut-out kids Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny witness the return of Big Gay Al and are accidentally sent to Afghanistan in the SOUTH PARK: THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON DVD, which arrives in stores nationwide Feb. 22, 2005.

The Ultimate Fifth Element on DVD

Luc Bessons dazzling THE FIFTH ELEMENT, already a reference quality Superbit DVD, has been upgraded to the Ultimate Edition (Columbia TriStar Home Ent., $24.96). Its hard to believe that this is the first edition to contain supplemental features, but they provide plenty of context and perspective to all that wonderful eye candy and sci-fi hokum from Besson and French comic book artists Jean-Claude Mézières and Mobius.

DONNIE DARKO, Richard Kellys disturbing 2001 indie cult about teen angst, time tripping and a giant demonic rabbit, hit a little too close to home with its eerie 9/11 parallels. Plus its confusing, elliptical narrative polarized moviegoers. Still, this 88 treatise on urban legends starring Jake Gyllenhaal became an instant one itself, prompting further elaboration in this expanded cut. ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF A SPOTLESS MIND was one of last years most intriguing movies, fashioned from the wild imaginations of screenwriter Charlie Kaufman and director Michel Gondry. Erasing a love from ones memory shook Jim Carrey and Oscar nominated Kate Winslet to the very core of their existence, and this new two-disc collectors edition DVD (Universal Home Ent., $27.98) offers more than an hours of bonus features. Vfx provided by Buzz Image Group and Custom Film Effects. However, as Gondry illustrates, he definitely prefers old fashioned, in-camera tricks to CGI.

DreamWorks Home Ent. has announced that last weeks DVD release of SHARK TALE garnered $80 million in North America. More than six million units sold with more than 5.5 million being DVDs. The Oscar-nominated animated feature brought in $56 million on its opening weekend and collected $160.8 million in its U.S. theatrical run.

Warner & Mattel Ride Hot Wheels on DVD & VHS

Warner Home Video Inc. (WHV) and Mattel Inc. have entered into a worldwide home entertainment distribution agreement for the companys new HOT WHEELS ACCELERACERS property. Under the terms of the multi-year agreement, WHV will have exclusive distribution rights to four HOT WHEELS movies promoting the new ACCELERACERS animated property in all territories throughout 2005 beginning with the debut release of the first installment of the four-part movie saga, ACCELERACERS: IGNITION, on March 22, 2005.

Canadian CG animation production company Mainframe Ent. and Mattel Inc. are completing production on a new animated feature-length DVD based on Mattels toy line Barbie Fairytopia. Lions Gate Family Home Ent. will distribute the feature, BARBIE FAIRYTOPIA, which will be available in stores March 8, 2005.

2005 marks the 40th anniversary the animated hero Roger Ramjet, and to celebrate, Classic Media is releasing ROGER RAMJET: HERO OF OUR NATION DELUXE COLLECTORS EDITION DVD box set. For the first time ever, 120 of the greatest ROGER RAMJET cartoons are available in one DVD set. Mulan II Now on DVD
