Jan Svankmajer's known -Ographies
(Incomplete, I'm sure, but last updated July 22, 1996)
Filmography
Videography: (U.S. NTSC format)
- Alchemist of the Surreal (60 min., 1964-1982) Includes Jabberwocky, Dimensions
of Dialogue, The Last Trick, Punch and Judy, and Etcetera.
Note: some copies actually have "Ossuary", "Pendulum, Pit and Hope"
and "Leonardo's Diary" instead of "Jabberwocky".
- Animation Celebration Vol. 3 An animation festival includes Svankmajer's
Darkness, Light, Darkness.
- Scenes from the Surreal (58 minutes) Includes Darkness, Light, Darkness,
Manly Games, Death of Stalinism, and The Animator of Prague.
- Alice (90 min., 1988) Jan Svankmajer's Alice is also the most available
of his work, and may be found in most quality video stores (this leaves out Blockbuster)
on VHS tape, and is also the only example of his work available on LaserDisc, from
Image Entertainment's CinemaDisc label (Catalog #ID7863FF). Side 2 of the disc is
in CAV format to allow for single-frame access.
All of the above videos were, at this writing, available from The
Whole Toon Catalog.
Check out the Svankmajer pages that I have completed; these include stills and
many quicktime movies:
