Jim Henson Company Signs with Simon & Schuster for ‘Doozers’

The Jim Henson Company partners with Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing to create a Ready-to-Read line of books for ‘Doozer.’

Hollywood, CAThe Jim Henson Company, world-renowned family entertainment producer and distributor, announced a North American publishing agreement with Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing to create a Ready-to-Read line of books for Doozers—an animated preschool series that encourages design thinking, inventing, and innovation and is inspired by the wildly popular characters from the company’s classic series Fraggle Rock. The announcement was made by Peter Schube, President & COO, The Jim Henson Company.

“Simon & Schuster is a global leader in juvenile, licensed publishing, and their Ready-to-Read leveling system is the ideal vehicle to encourage our Doozers fans to read and extend their connection to the series,” commented Schube.  “Doozers is available for viewing via our U.S. digital partner, Hulu, and this new book series will engage our young audiences further in a fun and educational way.”

“We are thrilled to work together with The Jim Henson Company to publish Doozers Ready-to-Reads,” said Kara Sargent, Editorial Director of Simon Spotlight. “We were drawn to this brand because of its strong educational approach and thoughtful implementation of the STEAM initiative, as well as the adorable characters, fun stories, and positive messaging of the show. Doozers is a wonderful new addition to our Ready-to-Read program.”

The first two Doozers books will be available as paperbacks, library editions, and e-books in fall 2015, with additional titles to debut in 2016.

Doozers, which debuted in April in the U.S. as the first Hulu Original series for kids, is a modern series for modern families featuring the adventures of The Pod Squad: Spike, Molly Bolt, Flex and Daisy Wheel.  The four Doozer kids live at the edge of our world and right under our noses in the fantastical, modern and eco-friendly Doozer Creek. They’re green, they’re cute and they’re three inches tall, full of energy, ideas and enthusiasm. Doozers put their ideas into action and change their dreams into reality, from designing a Doozer Derby racing car to flying in a kaleidoscope of butterflies or building a giant gingerbread house.

The series celebrates the spirit of being an innovator and inspires all kids to have an “I can do it” attitude. Doozers features a ground-breaking design thinking curriculum, which is part of an overall STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) initiative.

The Doozers series is a co-production of The Jim Henson Company and DHX Media Ltd. Serving as Executive Producers for The Jim Henson Company are Lisa Henson, CEO, and Halle Stanford, Executive Vice President of Children’s Entertainment. Steven DeNure and Anne Loi serve as Executive Producers for DHX Media Ltd.
