Sundance Film Festival Starts Global Short Film Project for Mobile

Sundance Institute, a champion for independent filmmakers for more than 25 years, is joining forces with the GSM Assoc. (GSMA), whose members serve more than two billion mobile phone customers across the globe, to create the Sundance Film Festival: Global Short Film Project. Sundance Institute president/founder Robert Redford unveiled the groundbreaking pilot project to showcase and extend the reach of the independent short film genre to mobile users worldwide, during a press conference at the Museum of Television & Radio in New York City.

Mobile media company Player X has collaborated with Universal Mobile Ent. to make special animated editions of the 1980s hit TV shows, KNIGHT RIDER and MAGNUM, P.I., directly for mobile delivery. Player X is creating a new genre in mobile video retrosodes, a suite of animated mobile video series.

SPIDER-MAN fans will get a long-awaited sneak peek at Columbia Pictures' highly anticipated SPIDER-MAN 3 when a new, full-length, two-and-a-half minute trailer debuts in a special unprecedented "road block" across Viacom Inc. 's brands and on the CBS Television Network on Nov. 9, at approximately 10:00 pm. THQ'S Cars Races to Xbox 360 in Time for the Holiday DVD Movie Launch

THQ Inc. has released Disney/Pixar's CARS for Xbox 360, in conjunction with the Cars holiday DVD launch on Nov. 7, 2006. This follows the launch of this past summer's blockbuster cross-platform launch of the game for the PlayStation2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, PSP, PC and Mac. The Xbox 360 version is available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $49.99. CARS is also scheduled to release for Nintendo Wii on Nov. 13.

Turner Broadcasting System Inc. announced that programming downloads of original productions from Adult Swim and NASCAR.COM will be made available beginning Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, to Xbox 360 gamers via Xbox Live, the online gaming and entertainment network. Xbox 360 gamers can access Xbox Live Marketplace with a free Xbox Live Silver subscription and a broadband connection.

Jetset Studios and FOX have teamed to create a special website to promote the upcoming annual Halloween special "Treehouse of Horror XVII," which airs on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, at 8:00 pm on FOX.

Austin’s D7 Studios Releases Animated Series Free Online at D7.Com

Austin-based D7 Studios, an independent animation company that completed the first-ever animated Coca-Cola/NASCAR commercial for the Daytona 500 in 2005, is releasing the first chapter of its new animated show, D7PEACEMAKER REVELATION, in hi-def for download, and broadcast on the Web for free in a scaled-down version at www.D7.com.

Created independently, the series features an anime style with an American plot. Written, directed, and animated solely by Arik Renee Avila, the series is produced by Tony Hobdy and Robin Bookwalter.

NBC 5 Chicago has put up on its website a CG still slideshow of the flight path of the plane, which crashed into a condo complex in New York City on Oct. 11, 2006.

Due the their popularity on NBC's LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O'BRIEN, comedian Jim Gaffigans PALE FORCE will be turned into a Web series, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. The first episode airs on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, and went live online the next day on NBC.com.

Gaffigan superhero satire was originally launched in Sept. 2005. The toons chronicle the misadventures of muscular Pale Man and his skinny sidekick, Conan O'Brien, as they use their paleness to fight crime.
