NVCP, France Ups Laurent Taieb to VP

Laurent Taieb has been promoted to VP, Nickelodeon and Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP), France as part of the company's strategic commitment to expand and further deepen its licensing and merchandising operations in the market. Taieb has managed NVCP's strategy in France since January 2006, including the direct oversight of DORA THE EXPLORER, which under his leadership became the fastest-growing toy license ever for Fisher Price and has spent the last 22 consecutive months as the territory's number-one licensed property.

Anacondas Director Takes on Tekken

Dwight Little, the director of ANACONDAS: THE HUNT FOR THE BLOOD ORCHID, will helm the screen adaptation of the Namco videogame TEKKEN, VARIETY reports. CSP's Steven Paul and Benedict Carver are the producers of the film, which is being funded by Crystal Sky Pictures.

Penned by Alan McElroy, the script follows a martial arts master who leads a rebellion against the oppressive Tekken Corp.

Filming will begin Feb. 4th in Shreveport, Louisiana.

MTV Games Cuts Deal with Jerry Bruckheimer

MTV Games announced an exclusive deal with internationally renowned motion picture and television producer Jerry Bruckheimer to develop and create new and original videogames, marking the producerâs first official foray into the gaming world. As part of the agreement, Bruckheimer will build a game incubation studio with MTV Games, where a team of experienced videogame experts, artists and storytellers will seek out and deliver new game concepts and intellectual property.

SEGA of America announced that SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is now available for play on the new iPod nano with video, the iPod classic and the fifth generation iPod. Multi-platform kids' program service Kabillion has partnered with interactive pioneer Little Director to offer an online site where kids can turn their artwork into animated movies. The free area at www.Kabillion.com enables kids to create drawings and submit them to LittleDirector.com, where, for a reduced fee of $19.95, the drawings will be converted into a short animated movie, complete with music soundtrack. The movies are viewable on Kabillion and can be delivered by mail on a DVD.

Vuze Debuts Anime Series

Internet TV service Vuze has signed an exclusive worldwide distribution deal for the anime series NEKO RAHMEN, reports C21 MEDIA. The company will offer the 13-episode hit series free-of-charge with English subtitles and no digital restrictions. Based on Sonishi Kenji's comedy cartoon, NEKO RAHMEN was the most popular short animation series on official streaming site Yahoo! Japan in August of this year. Vuze plans to offer French-, German- and Spanish-subtitled versions by early 2008.

YouTube has announced the expansion of its Partner Program, the revenue-sharing arrangement whereby the most popular and prolific creators of content for the site are able to earn money from their videos. The new program allows any resident of the U.S. or Canada to apply to become a partner, with more international markets to be added soon.

Capcom Developing Street Fighter IV

Capcom officially announced development of STREET FIGHTER IV, the next iteration of the genre-establishing fighting game series. This marks the first new entry announced in nearly eight years, following the acclaimed STREET FIGHTER III THIRD STRIKE.

Few details have been released about the new game, outside of a preview trailer that was released in October on the official website, StreetFighterWorld.com.

Exodus Enters Gaming Deal for Igor

Exodus Film Group announced a videogame deal with Interactive Game Group (I2G) and Legacy Interactive for a multi-platform game based on Exodus' CG-animated feature film IGOR. The game will be distributed on Nintendo DS and Wii, PC and wireless. Legacy Interactive will publish the IGOR game in North America and I2G is financing and coordinating the project on a worldwide basis. IGOR is a Weinstein Co. presentation being distributed in U.S. theaters by MGM on Oct. 24, 2008. The Weinstein Co. is handling international sales for the film.
