Nintendo Wants Solution to Piracy Problems

Nintendo of America Inc. wants the U.S. Trade Representative to encourage governments around the world to take a "more aggressive stance to combat piracy of Nintendo video games and systems."

China remains the primary manufacturer of pirated Nintendo DS and Wii games, Korea has emerged as the leader in distributing illegal game files over the Internet.

Brazil and Mexico remain saturated with counterfeit Nintendo software, and Paraguay and Hong Kong continue to serve as major transshipment points for global distribution of illegal goods.

Metal Gear Solid Mobile Wins Awards

METAL GEAR SOLID MOBILE is the winner of the Grand Prix and Operator's Choice Awards at the International Mobile Gaming Awards, Konami Digital Ent. announced today.

The jury of the IMGA picked a total of six winners out of almost 400 entries from 33 countries.

METAL GEAR SOLID MOBILE will be available for purchase later in February at Verizon Wireless.

METAL GEAR, a game previously released on PlayStation and PlayStation 2, features dramatic 3D art displays in a classic tactical espionage action game.

New Site For Classic Cartoons

DIC Entertainment has launched an online video channel, www.kewlcartoons.com, dedicated to new and classic cartoons for families and children.

Frederic Soulie will head the division, managing the company's network of sites.

Kewlcartoons.com features free, on-demand streaming animated television series from DIC's library of 3,000 half-hours of programming including DINO SQUAD, INSPECTOR GADGET and THE LITTLES.

The community also features chat and games, and is user-friendly for PC and Mac users.

Spore Release Date In September

THE SIMS creator Will Wrights new venture, SPORE, will be released Sept. 7, EA announced Tuesday.

SPORE is an epic journey that takes you from the origin and evolution of life through the development of civilization and technology and eventually all the way into the deepest reaches of outer space, according to the SPORE website.

The EA game simulates evolution and adaptation, letting users fight their way from amoebas up to large, sophisticated civilizations, then branching out to find other solar systems.

Magi-Nation Game Enters Open Beta Testing

North American online gamers can now experience MAGI-NATION: BATTLE FOR THE MOONLANDS open beta testing has started for the Web-based multiplayer adventure game.

Game night will be forever changed with the advent of classic Hasbro games on Nintendo Wii, DS, PC and mobile phones later this year.

LITTLEST PET SHOP and NERF N-STRIKE will be available on Wii and DS this fall, with development of MONOPOLY, SCRABBLE and other titles on multiple platforms underway, EA Casual Entertainment announced Monday.

Former Players Only In New Online Basketball Game

A new Internet sports simulation game released Monday, TOTAL HOOPS BASKETBALL, does not include most current players a break from traditional fantasy sports games.

TOTAL HOOPS owners will be able to draft and manage a team through an 82-game, seven-week season against other team owners.

More than 1,000 players from the NBA, the American Basketball Association (1967-1976) and the Basketball Association of America (1946-1949) are available, including legends like Michael Jordon, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

EA's Casual Entertainment Label today announced BOOM BLOX, the first game developed in collaboration between EA and Steven Spielberg. This high-energy game features over three hundred levels, a variety of activities, a cast of over 30 characters, and an easy-to-use in-game editor that allows players to express their creativity. BOOM BLOX will be available in May 2008 for the Wii.

Teat Beat, Because Washington Up for iTunes Review

Upon reports circling that iTunes banned Signe Baumane's TEAT BEAT OF SEX and Kenneth Ti and Kin Hung's BECAUSE WASHINGTON IS HOLLYWOOD FOR UGLY PEOPLE, the Sundance Film Festival, who submitted the films along with 40+ other shorts, contacted AWN to clarify the status of the shorts. The Sundance shorts need to go through a review committee for content and technical issues before they can make it into the iTunes store. A Sundance spokesman said that they should have an answer from iTunes by the end of the week and that the festival is pushing to have all the films it submitted online.

Cheaper Xbox Coming to Japan

Microsoft Corp. has announced it will start selling a cheaper version of the Xbox 360 in Japan, reports the AP. This is the same bare-bones version that began selling in the U.S. late last year. The low-price-tagged Xbox will hit stores March 6 for approximately $260. The move is a way for Microsoft to compete against the more popular Japanese products, the Wii from Nintendo and PlayStation 3 from Sony.

Space Chimps Rockets with Brash Game

Brash Ent. is working closely with Vanguard Animation and Starz Media to develop a videogame based on this summer's animated feature SPACE CHIMPS, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. The game is being developed for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Wii and DS.

Produced by John H. Williams and Barry Sonnenfeld, the film is set for release by Fox on July 18th. The story follows Ham, a curious circus chimp, who leads a group of chimps on a space mission to a strange new planet. SNL's Andy Samberg is voicing Ham.

Babelgum Names Director of Content Acquisition

Mark Cranwell has been named Director of Content Acquisition for Babelgum, the next-generation global Internet TV network, it was announced today. In the newly created position, Cranwell will be responsible for leading Babelgum's outreach efforts to producers, filmmakers and content creators in support of the new platform's content strategy. He will report directly to Simon Kenny, Babelgum's Head of Content Strategy and Advertising, in the company's London operation.
