| Walerian Borowszyk
was born in Poland and settled in France in 1959. He has made more than
30 short films and a dozen feature films. His work has won him awards
at international festivals. He has been hailed by critics as a major
film artist on account of his extraordinary originality and virulence.
In order to expand its animation section, the Museums of Annecy have purchased the whole plastic work of W. Borowczyk, composed of 170 pieces (drawings, cuttings, collages, water colours and sculptures).
The first part of the exhibition presents precious witnesses, genuine settings, and "actors" of animated films presented by the artist himself through panels associating films through different elements in relation with a shot or a film sequence. The public will discover the creation process of animated films through graphic artworks, storyboards, centering, shooting and music.
The second part presents works which are not connected to films. The general public will be provided with a vital opportunity to enter the surrealistic world of an outstanding film-maker and man of many talents: artist, painter, sculptor, writer, photographer, designer and director. W. Borowsczyk is an artist and film-maker for whom both activities are closely interlinked. A book designed and written by the artist for the exhibition was co-produced by Annecy School of Arts. The "Boro" exhibition was co produced by the international Centre of Animated Cinema and the Museums of Annecy.
