Color Stylist VS. Other Pre-production positions

Hello!

I've been wondering about the differences between color stylists and other pre-production positions as far as job security and payment.  I am well aware of what a color stlylist does but am not quite clear where they fit in regards to pecking order.  Is being a color stylist a good way to get your foot in the door, or an excellent job to stay and grow in?  Any input would be helpful.

Cheers!

Not a lot of positions called

Not a lot of positions called for with colour styling.  Usually the slot goes to someone that the studios know of, who has a reputation for delivering sound work.
They work from the start of the design process to just after designs are done for the last episode of that particular order.
To land the job you need to show exceptional skill that sets you apart from people that the studios can already access.
