Under The Knife is a new Youtube series dedicated to the horrors of pre-anaesthetic surgery. We are looking for a CG modeller/animator to create short skits at the end of each episode using the show's resident characters, The Surgeon and his apprentice, Cummings based on illustrations by our resident artist, Adrian Teal - http://www.adrianteal.com
The first episode launched at the end of September and already has over 7,700 hits - gaining in popularity every day. The second episode is now in the can and in post-production ready for an end of October release.
Each show has a formula that ends in an animated skit using the above characters. The skits are around 30 seconds long and feature the characters interacting with the real environment that Lindsey presents the show from.
I created the characters for the first couple of episode in Cheetah 3D and animated them myself - unfortunately my animation experience prior to this was a flickbook I proudly created in primary school of a bouncing ball. This may be evident.
Workflow would probably be along the lines of discussing the idea with the animator before we shoot. We will then shoot the show capturing whatever plates are needed to insert the characters into later on. The animator will get to work modelling any additional characters needed and animating the scene. I will then drop the animation over the background plates using a little After Effects jiggery-pokery. Primarilly I need someone to do a better job than me of animating!
Pay, unfortunately is woefully low at present - as the show gains in popularity, we hope to monetise and start bringing in a good budget per episode. With this in mind, there should be room for increase in what we can offer an animator. As a result the job would suit a keen student animator who is looking for practice and a chance to build a portfolio and get a bit of spare cash on the side!
