Bancroft Brothers Animation Podcast

Twin Disney animators, Tom Bancroft and Tony Bancroft, have launched The Bancroft Brothers Animation Podcast to discuss the art and business of animation.  Both Tom and Tony Bancroft have worked on many of the animated movies you know and love.  In the podcast they share stories from behind the scenes of films like Lion King, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast and more.  They also talk about their Disney Animation past, the present animation business, and the future of animation.

The goal of the show and interviews with talented artists, inspirational words, and wild speculation is to help you grow as a person.  The guests on their show also share stories, tips and insights from their careers, movies and other projects.

The talk show podcast can be found at http://taughtbyapro.com/category/podcasts/ and on iTunes. The Bancroft Brothers Podcast is sponsored by Taught By A Pro an online art and animation training company dedicated to bringing great instruction from the best professional artists.

Tom Bancroft -Tom Bancroft has almost 25 years of experience in the animation industry, most of which was for Walt Disney Feature animation where he was an animator for 11 years on films like: “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King,” “Aladdin”, “Mulan”, and “Brother Bear”.  He has been nominated for Annie and Rueben division awards, spoken at the Kennedy Center and awarded an entry into the Chicago Children’s Film Festival.  His popular character design instruction books, “Creating Characters with Personality” and “Character Mentor” have become the most recognized books on designing characters for animation, video games, comic books, and cartooning and are required textbooks at many art schools around the world.

Tony Bancroft - As a California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) student, Tony Bancroft’s talent was recognized very early on. As a result, his college career was cut short upon immediately being “drafted” to the big leagues of Walt Disney Animation Studios. He has worked on such legendary animated productions as The Rescuers Down Under, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. His diligence and a meticulous eye for character performance were rewarded when he became the Supervising Animator for both The Lion King and The Emperor’s New Groove. Memorable characters such as Pumbaa, the lovable warthog and spinach puff specialist, Kronk were two of the comedic creations that Tony brought to those Disney classics. He capped a successful 12-year career at Disney, being named co-director of the award-winning feature Mulan; adding to his list of credits, “youngest director in Disney’s history” and an Annie Award for Best Director that year.

Taught By A Pro (http://taughtbyapro.com): After working at Disney feature animation for over 11 years, lecturing at art schools, video game and animation studios, and writing some of the best-selling books on the subject of character design, Tom Bancroft, President of Taught By A Pro (taughtbyapro.com), had a few ideas about how artists learn.  Taught By A Pro believes that we learn by Listening, Watching, then Doing – then Doing again, and again. Seeing an experienced artist face the same challenge a student does is one of the best ways to learn!   Second to teaching, our goal with Taught By A Pro (http://taughtbyapro.com) is to provide a platform where previously untapped PRO artists can pass along their knowledge onto the world.
