Animation capture table: Where to buy?

Where can I an animation frame capture table, that scans frame by frame of a drawing, then imported into the computer to be done by the Flipbook software?

Or would a normal scanner be suffice? If yes, what's the fastest scanner out there?

If voltage is a concern, you may consider building your own, it looks pretty simple (I’m considering building my own) - You can find instructions on how to make one on-line, here:

Any way, search the net a bit, also one of the books I just suggested in the other thread (or both) also discuss building a light box.

I would suggest going with a incandescent, verses fluorescent, because with incandescent you can use a dimmer, and control the light outpoint.
JMTC,
Good luck!

Thanks, Adam. I've already bought a lightbox, but I'll look into your suggestion with some consideration.

However, we are discussing about buying a pencil tester and I doubt your suggestion has anything to do with this thread.

Still it would be more helpful if you can suggest on how to build our own pencil testing rig instead of buying it. Think you can do that for us? Send us some links or anything about building pencil testers.

Anyway, again, thanks for your suggestion, Adam.

Hi guys.

I have to be quick on this as I'm off to my (very!) early morning class right now. However, if what you're talking about is building a simple animation stand, here's a great link...

http://www.sci.fi/~animato/stand/stand.html

This may a bit 'over the top' for most of your needs but if you scroll down the page you'll see a simpler version that's worth considering.

Anyway, let me know if that's what you mean? :)

Best wishes,

Tony. :^{)}=-

HI Germania,
Sorry, I followed Tony's link, and found myself looking a lightboxes, I've kinda got a one track mind right now, as I've been looking at buying or building a light box of late... so by the time I returned to this thread, and posted my reply I had light boxes heavy on the mind. Sorry to muddy the water, that was not my intent!

I've had good results with the Canon CanoScan 8400F. Keep in mind that the largest paper size it will scan is the A4. But it's pretty fast with a full platen, 200 dpi color scan only taking 5 seconds. If memory serves, it was reasonably priced as well, around $100-$200 range.

I meant to say pencil testers, which I've found at Cartoon Supplies, but thanks for your suggestion.

Any other places I can find pencil testers?

Hi Germania9.

You might like to check out Lightfoot. They are a great animation supply source and pencil testers can be found at...

Coming from another country, I'm afraid that the wattage of the pencil testers bought online might not be compatible with my local wall sockets. I might look into finding some suitable converters for the testers.

On the other hand, the scanners share the same function with pencil testers, right? If yes, I'll look into Smudge's recommendation.
