Straight To Vid... HOW?!

Anyone have any information regarding the straight to video distribution scene? How do you find a good distributor?

no replies... does no one know anything about the straight to video process or is that kind of information to valuable to share? Can anyone refer a book on this subject?

I know nothing of the process. Check out the TV section at your local book store. If you live near a major university they are sure to have a communication course. You might also wont to check www.answers.com it could be a good jumping off place. If you have a "Suncoast Video" store in your city, you should ask the people there. Sometime they have someone working for them who is make a career in the communcations field. Sorry I could not be of more help.

well depends if your content is ready or not. if it isnt,im not sure how you would go about it.
usually straight to video is a title with some kind of hook or pedigree (gone wrong maybe?) like say Baywatch in the title, or Pamela Anderson or Patrick Swayze :)
if you want to take an animation title direct to video then you will have to talk to video distributors of film distributors who do home video as well. they will then have to get it placed in major chains like Wal-Mart (which is the big Kahuna) etc.
but that is usually a step by step process. i think they put you in small ass places first and then u move up if u do well. but anyway thats much later.
first u take ur content and meet video/film diostributors or film studios that have a home video department.

Thanks for your help guys. We've got a preschool series that's been pitched around to Disney and whatnot, but everyone's got their preschool show quotas filled so we're thinking of going straight to video with it.

you could pitch it in europe and then enter disney from the backdoor when the room open up

the reason i think straight to video is dodgy. you only get a % of the sales and itll end up making money only if it gets picked up by a nice lill chain.
have you spoken to an agent ? they would prolly know a specialist straight to video team (there has to be somoene who specialises)
or worse comes to worse, drive down to San Fernando Valley :) i can gurantee you will meet straight to video types there

LOL, I said preschool not pornschool!
