Animating in Flash

I'm trying to animate a characters head in Flash and I'm getting nowhere.
I need the character's head to turn from the profile so it becomes face on. I then need the character to wink. I've drawn 3 keyposes (profile view, face on and a winking pose) Do I need more? I've tried to motion tween and shape tween but I'm getting nowhere, can anyone help? :(

Thanks.

Yeah pretty much what ape said is what's in that little animation I did. Maybe if you post your character we can give you a bit more of a detailed answer? Cheers

I did a head turn recently. I drew the two heads I needed: 3/4 and front view and then I inbetweened it the traditional way. I put a blank keyframe inbetween the two key head poses and then turned on the onion skinning and drew a new head by using the brush tool. Here is the link to the animation:

The head turn is at the very end of the animation after the ogre bashes the logo. I think it works well. It's not at smooth as traditional animation because they would use more than just one drawing inbetween the two key head poses, but it doesn't pop from one pose to the other either.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
I ended up drawing the extra 3/4 head pose as I was in such a rush.
I really appreciate everyones comments and will bear them in mind for next time. :)

Would you be able to post the three key poses? Depending on the complexity of the animation you probably wont be able to motion/shape tween the face instead you might have to resort to drawing the keyframes inbetween

have you seperated the head into different pieces? (eyes, mouth, hair..)

I would definitely break all the pieces on the face into different symbols. This way you can scale the pieces to make the face look like it's turning. Here'a a very simple character doing just that. Hope it helps! Cheers :D

Depending how graphic your character designs are and the style of your animation, you could just pop the character from profile to front view. You antic up and stretch the head up and back, then squash it down and forward for the inbetween, then pop into the front view head with alittle overshoot to the side and let it settle back to your pose. Try and cheat it this way. If it works it works, if not, well now you know. ;)
