2D Animation Software??

I'm curious if anyone knows the type of software used for such works as Futurama or the Triplet's of Belleville. I know they use 3D software for all their character manipulation, however it still retains the feel of a hand drawn 2D style. I'm looking into creating a few short films and would like to use software to help save time, but I don't want a 3D film. Thanks very much.

Both 'Futurama' and 'Triplettes' use 2D for the characters; only the backgrounds and certain elements -like the bycicles or the van in Triplettes- are done in 3D. For 'Triplettes' they used Lightwave for the 3D elements, and I believe they used Toonboom or USAnimation to ink and paint the 2D stuff. No idea what package they used for Futurama, but most packages have decent toonshaders available nowadays.

For sure Futurama uses Toonz for 2d animation, compositing and some special effects, including particles.
