Headline News Gunshop Animates Scott Baio's Mid-Life Crisis For VH1

VH1 has teamed with San Francisco-based design and animation house Gunshop to create a series of animated tales from Scott Baio's past to set the stage for each episode of SCOTT BAIO IS 45 & SINGLE, in which he finds himself having a mid-life crisis of mythic proportions.

Beginning with the show's first episode on VH1, which premiered July 15, 2007, each animated short reveals another chapter from Scott's past, ranging from naked twins to pooping bums. Creative director Stacy Nimmo achieved a quick turnaround for a tight deadline by using Flash for the eight episodes.

Headline News Rai Fiction's New Cartoons for Fall

As autumn approaches, new original cartoons from Rai Fiction hit Rai's national networks, as well as those of the two satellite kids channels Rai Sat Yoyo and Smash (with around 20% of these channels' offer consisting of cartoons produced by Rai Fiction). In addition, Rai Cartoon, a daily half-hour slot devoted to cartoons produced or co-produced by Rai Fiction, takes to the air on Rai Gulp, the new public service channel for youngsters that began experimental broadcasts on June 1, 2007, using terrestrial digital technology.

Headline News CG Animators to Compete for FJORG! at SIGGRAPH 2007

SIGGRAPH officials, along with AMD, DreamWorks Animation and HP, offered details for the world's first international FJORG! competition: an "iron animator" event in which 15 competing teams from around the world will have 32 hours to create the world's best character-driven animation in front of a live, "Gladiator-style" audience and judging panel at the San Diego Convention Center.

Headline News Studio Arts Offers 'Tra-Digital' & Advanced ZBrush Classes This Summer

Studio Arts will start its latest round of classes for summer 2007 quarter commencing Monday, July 9. 2007.

Of special interest are several specially-designed 2D "tradigital" animation classes in Flash for TV, Bauhaus Mirage and Adobe AfterEffects. Beginning in fall, Studio Arts will round its 2D computer animation curriculum with its new series of Toon Boom 2D courses.

Nerd Corps Ent.'s first original property, STORM HAWKS, is making both its online and on-air worldwide launch this week.

Following a successful Friday night sneak peek of a one-hour special episode, STORM HAWKS began airing Mondays, as part of Cartoon Network's new summer programming lineup at 7:00 pm (ET, PT). Other broadcasters that will be debuting the series this summer or fall include YTV in Canada; Cartoon Network in the U.K., France and Latin America; terrestrial broadcaster France 3 and Canadian French-language broadcaster VRAK.

Headline News Olympic Website Animation Causes Epilepsy Seizures

Flash animation on the official website of the 2012 London Olympics has to be removed after reports came in that it was causing epileptic seizures, reports THE INDEPENDENT. Charity, Epilepsy Action, contacted the organizers about the problem saying they had received calls from people who suffer from photosensitive epilepsy.

Exaggerating the problem was the broadcast of some of the animation on television, which caused viewers to have seizures. Some are saying the animation of the Olympic logo, which is causing controversy of its own, was part of the problem.

Anima Mundi Web is for animated works specially created for the Internet. Files will be accepted only with the extensions ".swf" (shockwave flash) or ".flv" (flash video). There is no time limit for the length of the animation, size up to 5 mb.

Headline News Veteran Layout Artist/Designer Carol Lundberg Dies

Carol Lundberg, who worked for such studios as Filmation Assoc., Marvel Prods., Hanna-Barbera Studios and Hyperion Pictures, died on Feb. 11, 2007, reports THE BIG CARTOON DATABASE. She was 72.

In 1969, Lundberg began work as a layout artist for Filmation, where she worked until 1981. Her Filmation layout credits included: STAR TREK (1973), THE SECRET LIVES OF WALDO KITTY (1975), THE NEW ADVENTURES OF BATMAN (1977), THE YOUNG SENTINELS (1977), THE FAT ALBERT CHRISTMAS SPECIAL (1977) and THE NEW ADVENTURES OF FLASH GORDON (1979).
