Based on Laurence Yep's fantasy trilogy, the story is set in San Francisco and follows a Chinese-American boy who learns Chinese magic from his grandmother, but when she is killed by enemies the boy, along with a shape-changing tiger, becomes the guardian of a phoenix egg that controls the destiny of good and evil.
