Anibar International Animation Festival – Call for Entries
The 3rd annual Anibar Animation Festival is pleased to announce that the Call for Entries is now open. We invite all filmmakers to submit their animated films for consideration. The call is open till Saturday, June 30, 2012.

Additionally, films may be submitted using the online submission platform Reelport.

Anibar is scheduled for August 22nd - 27th 2012 in Peja, Kosovo.

Spend an evening at Escape Studios on Thursday, March 15, 2012 with The Mill’s John Leonti as he discusses the commercials VFX pipeline. Check out the behind-the-scenes work for the VES award-nominated spot “Immersion” for Mattel’s Hot Wheels, and the backstory behind Playstation’s cult-phenomena “Michael”. 

John will reveal all, including how you can be in the hot seat, working on high profile commercials such as these. Bring your appetite for knowledge, and plenty of questions.

As part of this event, Escape Studios will give you a unique opportunity to brush up on some of the essential skills required to work in VFX for free. That’s right; all those who attend will receive 30-days free access to our entire Maya Essentials online course. This course contains materials and resources to suit all skill levels, and will particularly benefit those taking their first steps to work in this industry as well as junior artists and runners.

Postponed to 15 January 2012, the deadline to participate at the ninth edition of Cortoons, International Festival of Short Animated Films.

 

This year, it will be from 14 to 18 March 2012, in the usual venue at the Palladium Theater, in Rome.

 

The competition categories are 7: Italian Short Films, International Short Films 1-4 minutes, 4-20 minutes Shorts International; Shorts Schools, Videoclips, VFX.

Cortoons, International Animated Film Festival, is opening registrations for its ninth edition, that will be held next March 2012 (14-18th) at Palladium Theatre in Rome (Italy).

The competition’s categories are seven:

Italian Short movie ; International Short movie from 1 to 4 minutes and from 4 to 20 minutes; Graduation Film; VFX ; Videoclip ; Feature Film

The subject is free.
Admission free.
All techniques of animation accepted.
The short films must be realized after 1st of January 2010

Tricky Women is the first and only festival of animated film that is dedicated exclusively to animation by women. The festival offers an international competition of animated short films realized by female artists and produced in 2010 or 2011.
 
The 9th edition of Tricky Women AnimationFilmFestival will take place in Vienna 14th - 18th March, 2012.

The deadline for applications for the preliminary selection is October 21th, 2011.

Digital Design and Worldbuilding For Narrative Media

 

A 3-part discussion into design as the backbone of digital narrative media, and to address the changing role of the designer in storytelling through Worldbuilding practices.

With this first in a series Worldbuilding Summit, the 5D | Institute and the USC SCA will use their unique access to frame an investigation into the language and practices of digital design methodologies, applying learning from thought leaders in core media industries to an interdisciplinary discussion space within and across media.

Worldbuilding is the new metaphor for the creation and actualizing of the story space in narrative media and will be the theme of the Summit. It addresses narrative design thinking, the immersive process and the experience of creating new worlds. It expresses the full arc of the role of design in Storytelling.
