ANIMA'09 will take place in the city of Cordoba, Argentina, from October 8 through 10, 2009. The festival is organized by the Centro Experimental de Animacion and the Secretaria de Extension Universitaria, National University of Cordoba. This fifth edition of the ANIMA will be dedicated to exploring the concept of Identity Traits. Therefore, we open the following: -- Call for entries, for short and feature animation films of every genre and topic. Special interest is granted to those films where the filmmaker's expressive intention stands out from marketing requirements; and also to school productions. Animateka International Animation Film Festival

The goal of the Animateka festival is to show every year the animation production from Central and East European countries in the only competition programme of the festival.Every year the international jury choose the best film with the award going to the director. An Audience Award and Best Student Film Award, as well as five jury mentions are given away. Beside the competition programme, there is a strong international film programme with historical and personal retrospectives, focuses on national productions, presentations of schools and other festivals, as well as fiction,documentary, experimental short film screenings. A comics exhibition and an audio-visual concert are also organized. The main idea behind the festival is to make it a place where invited authors, producers, journalists, other audiovisual professionals and the public meet and exchange their ideas and experiences through debates, workshops and informal meetings. There are no entry fees, but there is a technical request of 35mm or Beta SP film formats for the films screened at the festival.

The Zelski Art Portfolio for Animation program consists of 15 six-hour workshops. Students will be prepared for university or college drawing exams, where required. Through workshops, demonstrations and practice, students will strengthen their portfolios and prepare themselves for the competitive environment in the field of animation.

Fundamental drawing techniques play a major role in this and other Zelski Art workshops, and include pencil, conte, ink, pastel and charcoal. Students will have ample opportunity to practice perspective drawing in the following sessions:

--Life drawing: Instruction will be provided on how to draw a head, hand and feet.
--Everyday objects: Students learn to draw items such as a coffeemaker, vacuum cleaner, telephone etc.
--Perspective of space: Examples of perspective drawing include studies of a corner of the room.

Anime Expo 2005 (AX2005) is the largest convention in the United States devoted to anime (Japanese animation) and manga (comicbooks). More than 20,000 fans and professionals from across the country are expected to attend. Artists and designers from Japanese computer game companies, computer animation companies and American animation companies will also be on hand to discuss the growing influence of anime on mainstream American entertainment.

The 14th Annual Anime Expo will host panel discussions, video and film programming, workshops, masquerade events, karaoke contests, anime art exhibitions and much more. A center piece of the Expo are the Cosplay (costume play) events, where participants dress up and compete as their favorite anime characters.

Thousands of devoted fans are expected to attend and participate in an Anime Masquerade event, AX Idol karaoke and Anime Music Video contests.

Hosted by the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation, a non-profit organization with a mission to popularize and educate the American public about anime and manga as well as provide a forum to facilitate communication between professionals and fans.

Art Center College of Design will host its third biennial Art Center Design Conference, Serious Play, bringing together some of the greatest inventors, designers, tech wizards, architects, and artists of our time. The three-day event will explore the key role of "play" in creativity and innovation -- in business, the arts, technology, and more. Continuing its role at the forefront of any discussion of art and design, both locally and internationally, Art Center's Design Conference serves as a catalyst for rethinking the pivotal role of design in meeting society's challenges and the importance of design to our culture and the future. A new feature of this year's conference will be the hands-on Serious Play Studios. Conference attendees will have the opportunity to participate in exclusive hands-on design studios with conference speakers and world-class designers. Hosted by Art Center College of Design, the spectacular Art Center South Campus Wind Tunnel will provide the state-of-the-art conference environment. More than 30 design luminaries, emerging leaders, and internationally known speakers will assemble to present their stories during the three-day gathering. Speakers include: IDEO President and CEO Tim Brown; Tony Award-winning puppet designer Michael Curry; visionary performance artist Michael Moschen; MacArthur Prize-winning architect Elizabeth Diller; origami virtuoso Robert Lang; graphic designer Paula Scher; and MIT Media Lab pioneer John Maeda, among others.
