The Western Show is dedicated to the technological advancements that will drive bottom lines for the cable, Internet, telephone, computer, satellite, broadcast, motion picture or new media industries. This, the 36th edition of the event, will be the last. The National Show has grown so much that the National Cable & Telecommunications Association decided there was only need for one show. The International Festival of Cinema and Technology

The International Festival of Cinema and Technology will showcase a wide variety of independent cinema including dramas, comedies, documentaries, features, experimental films and animation. As the International Festival of Cinema and Technology's goal is to screen a variety of films, which include new technologies, animated projects make up a large part of the line-up. The festival features more than 40 animated projects featuring a variety of new animations created using a variety of new software and incorporating new talents and rising stars in the animation industry. Animation segments at the festival include "The Character: Visionary Future," "The Inanimate- Animated!" "Animation's Focus on the Character," and "Focus on Time." The event will take place at the Remote Lounge Screening Room, 237 E. Bowery Street, starting at 6:00 pm. The final night of events will take place from 7:00 pm-11:00 pm at the Tribeca Grand "Grand Screen" located at the Tribeca Grand Hotel, Two Avenue of the Americas. Tickets are $10 for each evening. Next Generation Internet/ US IPv6 Summit

The US Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) Summit in Washington, D.C. from December 9-11 will describe the business potential of the new Internet, described by Forrester Research as in the trillions of dollars. The new Internet protocol makes possible the "Extended Internet," with better multimedia transmission, video streaming, wireless gaming, etc. One of the participants is DARPA, the same people that created the first Internet. Billions of new gadgets with Internet addresses will be enabled by the new Internet, many of them (like the new Sony Playstation, which is new Internet-enabled) with graphics and animation. The American Animation Institute is hosting a storyboard portfolio night. The guest artists who will critique portfolios include Linda Miller, Karl Gnass and John Fountain. The American Animation Institute was founded in 1980 by the Motion Picture Screen Cartoonists and Affiliated Optical Electronic and Graphic Arts, Local 839 IATSE, to further the art of the animated cartoon in the United States through educational and other activities.

DH Institute of Media Arts is currently accepting submissions for our January gallery exhibit. There will be two themed categories for submitted works. The first category, an anime character in a Valentine themed setting. The second category submission is for an original game character design.
