Confidential, extensive explorations of how visual effects and digital animation were achieved in films such as X-MEN 2, THE MATRIX RELOADED and FINDING NEMO; will be part of the 5th Annual VES 2003: A Festival of Visual Effects line-up at The Los Angeles Film School in Hollywood from June 27-29, 2003. Presented by the Visual Effects Society (VES), the festival offers detailed, frequently proprietary, looks at the visual effects process through viewing certain segments of the works featured.

While the VES usually will focus on the big summer effects releases and TV series, this year the society is featuring music videos, titles and shorts as interesting aspects of visual effects.

Oscar-winning Ray Harryhausen will be feted with an American Cinematheque film tribute June 13-15 at the Egyptian Theater, 6712 Hollywood Boulevard. This three-day event features the legendary visual effects and films of Ray Harryhausen, famed for his visual imagination and his painstaking attention to detail (he did the lighting, camera work, sets and animation himself for almost all his stop-motion creations.) Special Effects giant Ray Harryhausen (JASON & THE ARGONAUTS and THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD) joins the Hollywood Walk of Fame with his own star on June 10. The ceremony, hosted by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, will take place at 11:30 a.m. in front of the El Capitan Theater (6840 Hollywood Blvd.) Guest speakers include sci-fi legend Ray Bradbury and filmmaker Frank Darabont (THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION). In conjunction with the ceremony, the Oscar-winning Harryhausen, who turns 83 next month, will be feted with an American Cinematheque film tribute June 13-15 at the Egyptian Theater.
