AMD is holding the AMD Athlon 64 Processor Animation and Digital Film Contest, a global search for the best non-commercial animation and digital short films. Eligible participants can submit their work in one of two categories, "Digital Cinematography" or "Computer Character Animation," for a chance to win one of two grand prizes. Each grand prizewinner will receive a desktop system based on the upcoming AMD Athlon 64 processor and $6,400. Eligible participants are invited to submit original 30- to 45-second, animations or digital short films for consideration. Six semifinalists will be selected (three in each category) by AMD and a panel of experts. These six submissions will be re-rendered by AMD on an AMD Athlon 64 processor-based system at the conclusion of the contest. AMD also plans to showcase the six semifinalists at AMD Athlon 64 launch events around the world on September 23, 2003. Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival is a Southern California event highlighting films and music from around the globe. SabuCat Productions will present the largest 3D tribute show ever at the Egyptian Theatre (6712 Hollywood Boulevard). THE LORD OF THE RINGS Motion Picture Trilogy - The Exhibition is running at the Science Museum. Hundreds of props from the movies including models, armory and costumes will be on display alongside interactive computer demonstrations of the cutting-edge technology used to bring the story to life. Visitors will also have a chance to see the first two films of the trilogy at the Science Museum's cinema. The exhibition includes: * Demonstrations of special effects, including the combining of 'real' and 'digital' action and CGI (computer-generated-image technology). * A scaling interactive explaining one way that the films managed to make characters seem different heights, which allows visitors to become Hobbit sized in a scene from THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING. * A display on the prosthetics, which transformed actors, including Hobbit hands and feet. * Weapons belonging to Arwen, Gandalf, Frodo, and Aragorn. * Outfits including Arwen's riding costume, Galadriel's stunning dress and Gandalf's robes.

First Annual ManiaFest

Showcasing the best in science fiction, fantasy and horror filmmaking, ManiaFest is a four-day film festival highlighted by screenings, film premieres and panels headlined by genre legends. ManiaFest is produced by Mania Entertainment, publisher of CINESCAPE magazine and producer of the Cinescape Saturn Awards. The festival will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Monica. The event will conclude with an award ceremony honoring Lifetime Achievement recipient Stan Winston and the winners of the ManiaFest amateur filmmaker competition. On September 18 at 5:00 pm, STAR TREK IV will screen. At 8:00 pm, BEYOND RE-ANIMATOR will make its west coast premiere followed by cast and crew discussion. On Friday, September 19 at 10:00 pm, there will be a FRIDAY THE 13TH screening followed by a Q&A session with the film's cast and filmmakers including: Sean Cunningham (director) and cast members Adrienne King and Robbi Morgan. Those in attendance will also be treated to a special announcement regarding the future of the franchise. On September 20 at 10:00 am, the Masters of Horror panel will discuss what scares us in horror films. Panelists include: Clive Barker, Wes Craven, Stuart Gordon, Tobe Hooper, George Romero and Eli Roth. At 8:00 pm, there will be a THE HILLS HAVE EYES screening followed by Q&A session with the cast and filmmakers including: Wes Craven (writer and director) and cast members Janus Blythe, Susan Lanier and Robert Houston. On September 21 at 10:00 am, the Comic Books To Film panel, sponsored by CrossGen Comics, will include: Stan Lee, Guillermo del Toro, Michael Uslan, Chuck Russell, David Hayter and Tom Desanto. At 5:00 pm, the festival will present the world premiere of Lion's Gate MONSTER MAN followed by a Q&A session with the film's cast and filmmakers including: Michael Davis (writer and director), and cast members Eric Jungmann, Aimee Brooks, Michael Baily Smith and Joe Goodrich. At 8:00 pm, the awards party and closing night ceremonies will take place at Schatzi on Main where festival winners will be announced and Stan Winston will be honored. The festival screenings and panels will take place at the Leammle Theatre on 2nd Street.
