Visual effects supervisor Doug Cooper and head of effects Mark Miller of SHARK TALE will present work from the film at the Alias User Group Meeting. The film utilized Maya for modeling, animation and visual effects. The evening will reveal details from visual design and development, through character rigging and animation, procedural modeling, special effects and final lighting. The team will explain their use of RenderMan, Mental Ray and a vast array of proprietary software and plug-ins.

Gnomon School of Visual Effects will be holding an Alias Users Group meeting. The meet and greet will begin at 5:30 pm with the presentation starting at 6:30 pm. First, Eric Hanson, author, and Eric Pender, contributor, of MAYA 5 KILLER TIPS; and Erick Miller, co-author of INSIDE MAYA 5 will show tips and tricks in Maya 5. Then Digital Domain's technical and sequence lead Darren Hendler will discuss Digital Domain's use of set extensions and how they created the digital crocodile using Maya. Finally, Tefft Smith and Hudson Shock of Look fx! will do a shot breakdown on the maggot scene they produced for THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST. MAYA 5 books will be raffled off at the event. ANIMA'09 will take place in the city of Cordoba, Argentina, from October 8 through 10, 2009. The festival is organized by the Centro Experimental de Animacion and the Secretaria de Extension Universitaria, National University of Cordoba. This fifth edition of the ANIMA will be dedicated to exploring the concept of Identity Traits. Therefore, we open the following: -- Call for entries, for short and feature animation films of every genre and topic. Special interest is granted to those films where the filmmaker's expressive intention stands out from marketing requirements; and also to school productions. AnimaCampus Tallinn is a brand new networking platform and training event for up-and-coming young filmmakers working in the field of animation. The five-day creative summit takes place in parallel with the Animation Film Festival Animated Dreams, the sub-festival of Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. 

In the frame of several lectures, presentations, discussions, screenings and workshops international animation experts share their experience in making cinéma d'auteur animation films as well as commercial productions. A mix of animation art and industry. A mix of traditional animation techniques and new media technologies. AnimaCampus Tallinn provides young professionals from East and West the opportunity to learn from top animation experts and build international networks in  inspiring European Capital of Culture atmosphere.

PROGRAMME

The programme of AnimaCampus Tallinn consists of the following activities:

Inspiration talks:

• Lectures, presentations and panel discussions to address the breaking issues in the animation history and today. * Open to all participants, guests and public.

 

Hands-on trainings:

• Practical workshops, case studies and meeting-the-expert sessions in different fields of work promoting direct interaction between young and experienced professionals. * Open to participants and guests.

Mentoring and guidance:

• Specialized master classes. * Open only to participants.

• Individual project consultations. * Open only to participants.

 

Networking and entertainment:

• Film screenings at the Animation Film Festival Animated Dreams. 

• Excursions to Estonian animation studios and Museum of Puppets.

• Match-making sessions.

• Social events and concerts in the evenings.


REGIONS IN FOCUS

In 2011 AnimaCampus Tallinn is setting its focus on the following regions: Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland), Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), South Caucasus (Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan) and Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan). Emerging animation filmmakers from the above mentioned countries are eligible to apply through the open call for entries. However, motivated applicants from the other European countries wishing to explore the animation scene in those regions are also encouraged to send their application.

Anime Expo 2004

Anime Expo 2004 (AX2004) is the largest convention in the United States devoted to anime (Japanese animation) and manga (comic books). More than 20,000 fans and professionals from across the country are expected to attend. Artists and designers from Japanese computer game companies, computer animation companies and American animation companies will also be on hand to discuss the growing influence of anime on mainstream American entertainment.

The 13th Annual Anime Expo will host panel discussions, video and film programming, workshops, masquerade events, karaoke contests, anime art exhibitions and much more. A center piece of the Expo are the Cosplay (costume play) events, where participants dress up and compete as their favorite anime characters.

Thousands of devoted fans are expected to attend and participate in an Anime Masquerade event, AX Idol karaoke and Anime Music Video contests.

Hosted by the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation, a non-profit organization with a mission to popularize and educate the American public about anime and manga as well as provide a forum to facilitate communication between professionals and fans.

Australian International Animation Festival 2008

CSU Animation and Visual Effects present the fifth Australian International Animation Festival 2008. This year they have secured amazing exclusives from more than 2,200 submissions from 30 countries.

The international programs will give audiences a complete, up-to-date snapshot of the international creative animation scene. In addition are programs that focus on digital animating, puppet films and Australian-made films. There will be kids, high school aged-programs, and even a "Late Night Bizarre: program for those whose tastes are on the extreme. There will also be a series of free talks and workshops given by filmmakers from all over Australia to provide a chance to learn more about how and why these films get made. Door-prizes include Adobe, Autodesk, Wacom and HP products.
