Friedman 3D will be starting its new semester July 5th, 2005. Instruction will be provided in Alias Maya from 8:00am to 2:40pm Monday through Friday. There will also be an Adobe AfterEffects class that will run from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost for classes is $75 and $25 respectively, plus a $25 registration fee. The Alias Maya course will be delivered in two sections by Mr. Vincent Delay, a Maya artist and formerly a CG Supervisor at The Engine Room. Section One will be introductory and will run in the mornings from 8:00am until 11:00am. Section Two will be an intermediate course and will run from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. The class will start Tuesday, July 5th, 2005 and will run until Friday, December 16th, 2005. $75 + $25 reg. fee. Adobe After Effects instruction will be taught by Ms. Nancy LeMay, who has worked as a titles and graphics artist for NBC and a host of other companies. The class will start Tuesday, July 5th, 2005 and will run until Thursday, December 15th, 2005. $25 + $25 reg. fee. Friedman 3D is located at 570 W. Avenue 26, Suite 425, Los Angeles, CA 90065 and is a non-profit, collaborative venture between Studio Arts and LAUSD's Venice Skills Center. Friedman 3D offers low-cost, high-end training in computer animation, visual effects and other graphics classes to provide artists an affordable alternative to expensive CG learning. Studio Arts of Los Angeles, CA will be host to a special group of ALIAS MAYA seminars, classes and workshops that will begin Monday, October 17th, 2005 and end Friday, December 16, 2005.

Maya instruction will be from introductory level to intermediate and advanced workshops in everything from modeling and textures to rigging, animation and more. Classes will meet from 8am-3pm Mon. through Fri.

As it is a special subsidized program it will cost the participants $75 plus a $25 reg. fee. Studio Arts normally charges $10,000 per semester for the same level of training.

You must qualify as an artist in need to enter this program. Emphasis will be on producing a demo reel and paricipation in a CG project is mandatory. Deadline for registration is October 14th. Email f3d@studioarts.tv for more info.

The next Los Angeles Combustion User Group meeting will be held at Digital Domain. Possible events for the evening include film related tutorials, advance techniques, presentations and access to the minds and talent of other users.

* Jeff Kim From Digital Domain will show and explain a complicated Wire Removal Shot from I, ROBOT
* Paul Curly will demonstrate matte painting and also explain production output for film.

IMAGINA is the foremost digital content creation festival in Europe.

The next edition, to be held in Monaco from Wednesday 1st to Friday 3rd February 2006, will be dynamic, with even greater impact, and will focus on meetings between professionals and on business.
Fully aware of the needs of the industry, the organisers of IMAGINA have decided to develop a new event concept. Final Cut Pro users will learn firsthand how the FileMaker Pro 8 (www.filemaker.com) helps manage business and creative processes at the upcoming Los Angeles Final Cut Pro Users Group (LAFCPUG) Meeting. The LAFCPUG will meet at 6:45 pm, at the Gallery Theatre, 4800 Hollywood Blvd. Ramy Katrib, ceo/founder of West Hollywood-based DigitalFilm Tree (www.digitalfilmtree.com), will demonstrate how applications like Final Cut Pro, FileMaker Pro 8 and related technologies help run his firm's creative process and manage its business. DigitalFilm Tree (DFT) is a research and development-based post-production facility, specializing in consulting and workflow design. DFT's offerings include online mastering, color correction, VFX and design work. The company's credits include first time filmmakers as well as the feature films COLD MOUNTAIN and NAPOLEON DYNAMITE and the TV series SCRUBS. FileMaker Pro 8 forms the backbone of DigitalFilm Tree's tracking and asset management infrastructure. DigitalFilm Tree uses several custom FileMaker databases for everything from invoicing, to digital dailies, asset management, visual effects status tracking, production and editorial databases. The festival is review professional and amateur flash animations. At festival it is planned: round tables, an exchange of experience, personal contacts of colleagues on shop. An establishment of business contacts between partners of the project and animators. On preliminary selection for participation in Festival animation products of all studios and amateur authors, in .swf format without restriction in mbytes and minutes are accepted without restriction all. Works more 7Mb to send on CD or DVD by mail. The jury invited for this work by organizing committee of Festival, on the basis of full viewing all cartoon films of the competitive program awards awards on following nominations:
1) the best cheerful film, (kind, ridiculous)
2) the best terrible film, (horror stories, horror films)
3) the best serial.
4) the best conceptual film.
5) the best flash game (without blood and violence)

The Grand-prix receives the most outstanding film.
