The 24th International Festival of animated film is now accepting entries for animated short films, television series, commissioned films and student films. Entry forms are now available on the festival web site. The three selection committees will gather in Annecy March 2-12, 2000 in order to choose the 5 features and 10 programs of shorts which will compose the official competition together with the 3 or 4 school and graduation film programs and the 8 TV & commissioned film programs, representing in total more that 30 hours of viewing. After honoring Japanese Animation in 1999, the festival will celebrate a century of animation, in an unprecedented tribute to all forms of the art. The festivities even include the participation of Richard Williams. The triple Oscar-winning animator, regarded by many in the industry as a modern master, will offer a three-day Animation Masterclass on the principles of animation, June 3-5, 2000. The MIFA expo (International Animated Film Market) will be open June 7-10, 2000, and feature a sizable new technologies area. The MIFA conference themes and speaker names will be available soon on the festival web site. Participation forms for the scientific conference NPAR 2000 (First International Symposium on Non Photorealistic Animation and Rendering, June 5-7, 2000) will be ready in February.

Asia Television Forum and Asia Film Market and Conference are the anchor events for Asia Media Festival 2005. An event organized by Reed Exhibitions and hosted by MDA, the fortnight-long Festival showcases a host of trade and public events in print, broadcasting, film, publishing, digital media and online media. Some of the trade events, which held during the festival included Asia Television Forum, Asia Film Market & Conference, Media Financing Forum, Asia Animation Conference, Asian Television Awards and Promax & BDA Asia.

2004 show highlights included Interactive TV (iTV) and a special Animation showcase. The event also featured conferences addressing key industry concerns and issues; ATF Conference; Asia Animation Summit and Conference; and the inaugural Media Financing Forum, which included one-on-one sessions with the financiers. Altogether, nine financiers from seven countries reviewed 32 shortlisted projects who were vying for a slice of the more than S$100 million pie set aside to fund productions by Asian production companies.

ASIFA-San Francisco will be hosting its first animation book fair at the Exploratorium's McBean theater. Speakers include: Ed Hooks, author of ACTING FOR ANIMATORS, and Nik Phelps, creator of the new CD FETCH. Plus, a live performance with Will Ryan and Diane Michelle in literature's great love scenes including THE DAY ELMO AARDVARK MET VA VA LA VOOM! and a brief demonstration of ukulele astonishment! On July 11th and 12th the Atlanta Motion Graphics Festival showcases explosive artists and motion picture creators. Artists being showcased include: Shepard Fairey, Nine Inch Nails, David Byrne, Chuck D of Public Enemy, KRS-One, Addictive TV, Digital Kitchen, The Mill, Passion Pictures, Animal Logic, Post Panic, Dvein, David Lobser and more. The ATL-MGFest will be hosting workshops and lectures about the shift in motion-picture audiences and explores the new technologies that motion designers will need on the video internet frontier. The Bangkok Film Festival, coming off its most successful year ever in 2004, reaching its goal of 100,000 attendees, was reinvigorated by adding competitive film categories and sections for the first time and by bringing back the film market. Some 150 films will be selected in various categories: International competition, ASEAN Competition, a selection of feature length documentaries, Asian Short Films, a collection of Thai cinema and more than 75 films in the Windows of the World section.

As last year, the film market will run concurrently with the festival from Jan. 17
