The 8th World Animation Celebration (WAC) will present awards to the best new animated works from around the world. Events include; The World Animation screenings; The World Animation competition; The Animation Hall of Fame ceremony; six one-day animation business conferences; four days of animation seminars and classes; two days of animation career planning sessions; The World Animation Marketplace and Recruitment Expo; The Battle of the Animation Studios Synchronized Swimming Teams; networking parties and receptions; and a one-day animation educators conference. Categories for the competition include feature and short films, television series, television specials, commercials, music videos, public service announcements, educational films, experimental animation, computer animation, Web animation, title sequences and direct-to-video productions. Registration fees range from $25 to $100.

SIGGRAPH is the foremost conference and exhibition of visual effects and interactive technology. The event offers scientific papers, panels, courses, educational programs and informal presentations from researchers, artists, animators and engineers. The exhibition presents all the software, hardware and services that are hot in the computer graphics field. The computer animation festival highlights the year's best films and video artists.

The AWGUA Freak Show will take place at the Orpheum Theatre, 842 South Broadway, Los Angeles, on Monday, 9:30 am - 6:00 pm. The Fun House party will begin at 7:00 pm. The AWGUA conference seminars will be held at the Westin Bonaventure, 404 South Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, Monday through Wednesday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Featured speakers include: Duncan Brinsmead and Jos Stam, Alias|Wavefront, presenting the "Two-Headed Genius" and other acts of scientific research; and Square Pictures, highlighting their first film, "Final Fantasy: the Spirits Within." Other highlights include: Twelve seminar sessions relating to Maya workflows, techniques and instruction; The 'Ask the experts' room, where attendees have one-on-one access to A|W employees, while practicing techniques learned from the seminars; and The Midway, the annual AWGUA vendor fair showing the latest developments in technologies, from motion capture solutions to Web content delivery.

The Consumer Electronics Association (C.E.A.) and JEDEC issued a call for speakers for their new conference, EdgeTech: Emerging Technologies Showcase, featuring the latest semiconductor and consumer technology. EdgeTech will consist of three tracks, the first educating attendees on how to build the technology, the second explaining how to produce and sell the technology, and the final track showcasing technology in the marketplace. Companies can also display new technologies recently available on the market in five-minute demonstrations. The tracks will feature experts and leaders from all aspects of the consumer and semiconductor technology industry. RMCAD and ASIFA-Colorado welcome Barbara Mones-Hattal, renowned computer animation artist. Barbara is also a faculty member at the University of Washington.

The six-day conference will debut the results of the GSTA recently released Economic Impact Study, a comprehensive examination of the quantitative and qualitative factors that affect how large format films are produced, distributed and exhibited. The conference will also feature up to 12 new giant screen films and 4 short films and will introduce a nightly "wrap party" for attendees to network and expound on the events of the day. Other conference favorites will include Films-In-Development and Films-In-Progress, Technical Sessions, Roundtables, Developing Members Workshop, and the GSTA Achievement Awards.
