The event features celebrity guests, a charity auction, sci-fi trivia contests, acting and modeling auditions, a costume contest and much more. For role game players, the conventions will offer various tournaments, including Magic the Gathering, Star Trek, Star Wars & other CCG & RPG games. L!CENSING 2001 is the 21st annual trade show for the multi-billion dollar worldwide business of licensing, marketing and merchandising. The show is expected to showcase over 4,000 properties during the three-day event from some of the globe's leading companies. Moderators of the various panels will be: Nell Roney, VP of Nancy Bailey & Associates; Greg Battersby, partner at Grimes & Battersby, LLP; and Russ Brown, senior VP, consumer products for Marvel Entertainment. Invoking the universes of Edgar Alan Poe, Lewis Carroll and the claustrophobia of Kafka, the work of Czech filmmaker Jan Svankmajer is bizarrely beautiful: a witty blend of the macabre, the grotesque and gothic horror! The series opens with the LA premiere of his newest film GREEDY GUTS (OSTESANEK, 2001). Svankmajer's features ALICE and PLEASURE CONSPIRATORS will screen along with several programs of his short films, plus the Brothers Quay's THE CABINET OF JAN SVANKMAJER (14 min.). All programs will be held at the American Cinematheque's Egyptian Theater at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard (between McCadden Place & Las Palmas Avenue).
