The 8th World Animation Celebration (WAC) will present awards to the best new animated works from around the world. Events include; The World Animation screenings; The World Animation competition; The Animation Hall of Fame ceremony; six one-day animation business conferences; four days of animation seminars and classes; two days of animation career planning sessions; The World Animation Marketplace and Recruitment Expo; The Battle of the Animation Studios Synchronized Swimming Teams; networking parties and receptions; and a one-day animation educators conference. Categories for the competition include feature and short films, television series, television specials, commercials, music videos, public service announcements, educational films, experimental animation, computer animation, Web animation, title sequences and direct-to-video productions. Registration fees range from $25 to $100.

Invoking the universes of Edgar Alan Poe, Lewis Carroll and the claustrophobia of Kafka, the work of Czech filmmaker Jan Svankmajer is bizarrely beautiful: a witty blend of the macabre, the grotesque and gothic horror! The series opens with the LA premiere of his newest film GREEDY GUTS (OSTESANEK, 2001). Svankmajer's features ALICE and PLEASURE CONSPIRATORS will screen along with several programs of his short films, plus the Brothers Quay's THE CABINET OF JAN SVANKMAJER (14 min.). All programs will be held at the American Cinematheque's Egyptian Theater at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard (between McCadden Place & Las Palmas Avenue).

The Consumer Electronics Association (C.E.A.) and JEDEC issued a call for speakers for their new conference, EdgeTech: Emerging Technologies Showcase, featuring the latest semiconductor and consumer technology. EdgeTech will consist of three tracks, the first educating attendees on how to build the technology, the second explaining how to produce and sell the technology, and the final track showcasing technology in the marketplace. Companies can also display new technologies recently available on the market in five-minute demonstrations. The tracks will feature experts and leaders from all aspects of the consumer and semiconductor technology industry.
