MoMA is presenting a exhibition of works by New York-based animator Michael Sporn. The exhibition, which is divided into four programs -- "New York Stories," "Fables," "A Peaceable Kingdom," and "An Evening with Michael Sporn" -- includes LYLE, LYLE CROCODILE (1987), GOODNIGHT MOON (1999), and his recent, moving adaptation of the Mordicai Gerstein Caldecott Award-winning book, THE MAN WHO WALKED BETWEEN THE TOWERS (2005). A highlight of the series is "An Evening with Michael Sporn" on Nov. 12, part of the recently launched Modern Mondays initiative. The artist in conversation with animation historian/filmmaker John Canemaker and MoMA assistant curator Joshua Siegel, will illustrate the evening with clips from his award-winning animated films, including a new short, Pab's First Burger, and an excerpt from his feature-length work-in-progress about the life and work of Edgar Allan Poe. Prominent industry filmmakers will focus on how the convergence of film origination and digital postproduction affect the workflow during a seminar here on May 21 at Tribeca Cinemas from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Producer Brian Bell and cinematographers Nancy Schreiber, ASC and Matthew Libatique, ASC will participate in the discussion moderated by Carolyn Giardina, senior editor of SHOOT Magazine. Kodak is hosting the seminar.

Such new tools include the Kodak Look Manager and Kodak Display Manager systems, which are designed to help filmmakers maintain control and communicate their intentions with editors, digital timers and other collaborators on a project. LaserPacific president Leon Silverman will offer insights into issues related to color management and how the evolution of digital intermediate technology is affecting the workflow.
