From Cutting Edge To Cookie Cutter

WHEN: Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

The visual effects industry has evolved dramatically over the last decade. The growing technological possibilities form a constantly accelerating cycle with bigger expectations from directors, studios and audiences, leading to increasing challenges for the creators of 3D visual effects. The cutting edge technology of yesterday is the cookie cutter tool of today.

By using examples from a large variety of Rhythm and Hues projects, we explore the roles of research & development, international expansion and competition & cooperation to see what is involved in bringing the visions and expectations of movie makers and audiences come to life.

Primary projects to be discussed include:
-The Golden Compass
-Kingdom
-Alvin and the Chipmunks

Speakers:
WILL TELFORD
Digital Effects Supervisor

HANS RIJPKEMA
Production Technology Lead
