Design Festa is an international art event open to all artists from all over the world to exhibit their creative talent. Anyone who has original work can take part and express themselves through this freestyle event. There are no restrictions. Express your ideas at Design Festa for an opportunity at experimentation and the next step in your artistic lives. About 7,000 artists attended last time with more than 55,000 visitors.

2,600 booths will be set up in the event hall. This free-style exhibition is open to all mediums for exhibition, presentation and sale. There is also a dimmed lighting area for exhibiting work requiring low lighting. This space gives you the freedom to have an unprecedented style of exhibition, with multimedia work, light orientated art, performance, installation, space design and more.

Outdoor Live-show Stage:
Twenty bands will roll out performances ranging from rock to funk and jazz more.

Indoor Stage:
Fashion shows, performance, contemporary dance and more. All genres are welcome.

Mini-Theater Space:

ASIFA-SF'S Annual Open Screening for Independent Animators and Student Films

At the Exploratorium's McBean Theater, free, public invited, lots of free parking. Everybody with an animated film is invited to bring it and it will be shown (16mm, VHS tape & DVD). Email karlcohen@earthlink.net The program will include: Don Albrecht, a former Disney animator, will have an outrageous surprise or two (Walt wouldn't approve of his new work), Jett Atwood's TEA FOR TWO, based on a pencil test made at Sheridan College. She finished this film on her own a year and a half later. Signe Baumane's BIRTH, is a powerful emotional work about one woman's experience. Charlie Canfield is bringing excerpts of his animation for the Emmy nominated A SPAN IN TIME. The award ceremony is May 9. Nick Fox-Gieg, THE ORANGE, Suddenly, a humble citrus fruit is granted absolute power over the universe. From a story by Benjamin Rosenbaum. Gene Hamm will delight us with CHINESE MEDICINE, PUNCTURE PERFECT (made for his comedy act) and his disturbing THE TRUTH ABOUT CUT FLOWERS? Andy Kaiser's FRIENDLY FIRE, a puppet film from Germany with music written and performed by Nik Phelps. A surprise by Michel Langan. Chris Perry's THE INCIDENT AT TOWER 37, a tale about limited natural resources by a teacher from Hampshire College in Amherst, Mass. It will be shown at SIGGRAPH 2009. Michael Stevenson, PIGEON PILFER. It's about a man who is tormented by stares from pigeons as he tries to figure out what they're after. San Francisco State's Animation program is presenting student music synch projects. Plus lots of other surprises from independent animators and college students. The show is always a lot of fun and well attended, so arrive early for a good seat.

Spontaneous Fantasia at the Glendale Community College Planetarium is a showcase for the combined efforts of a visual artist, performance artist, animator, musical composer, and Technical Academy Award winner. All happen to be the same person: J.Walt Adamczyk, he of the multiple talents and Scrabble-worthy last name, puts together an hour of improvised 3-D animation and music through interactive CG techniques, accompanied by his own original score.

Adamczyk creates live animated scenes which include alien landscapes, strange oceanic ballets, surreal gardens, psychedelic swirls.

The show is suitable for all ages, though young children might find it too intense.

Fridays at 8 p.m.; Saturdays at 6:30 p.m.
Adults: $15, Kids: $6

AFI DigiFest 2007

As a featured component of Los Angeles' International AFI Film Festival, AFI DigiFest is presenting two interactive media showcases highlighting the latest innovations in digital media and their real-world applications. Presented at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' beautiful Linwood-Dunn Theater, the two days of presentations and seminars will be filled with some pretty dazzling stuff. Here's the program: Day One (November 8): AFI hosts a series of curated presentations that highlight noteworthy digital productions from around the world. Among the presentations, Marshall Herskovitz, creator of THIRTY SOMETHING, MY SO-CALLED LIFE and BLOOD DIAMOND, will preview QUARTERLIFE, a new dramatic broadband series that premieres on MySpace on Nov. 11. Presentations rounding out the day feature the best in new digital thinking from the worlds of film, television, games and mobile. Bobby Beck, CEO/President, Animation Mentor, will be part of a panel titled "The Reinvention of Storytelling through Interactive Media." Day Two (November 9): AFI presents five new prototypes incubated in the AFI Digital Content Lab: an online video platform and citizen journalist toolkit for NOW, PBS' weekly investigative news program; a strategy for retaining viewer interest during ads in a DVR environment for Bravo; a social network tailored for players, a documentary about videogame fans being produced by MTV, EA, and Mekanism; a pilot for an original dramatic machinima series created within a 3D game engine; and, finally, a unique user-generated film contest, Filmocracy, for ITVS.
