The Big 3D Contest

The Big 3D contest is the first of its kind to focus on 3D design for the Web, bringing together the 3D and Web development communities to showcase the possibilities in this new arena of Web design. The contest will distribute over $15,000 in prizes, including full copies of SOFTIMAGE|XSI, NewTek Lightwave3D, Toon Boom Studio, MindAvenue AXELedge, Electric Rain Swift 3D, Anark Studio, Ideaworks3D Optimaze!, Strata 3D Pro, and FlashForward 2003 conference pass.

X2 Presentation & Screening at L.A. ACM SIGGRAPH Meeting

The Los Angreles Chapter meeting of SIGGRAPH will feature "making of" presentations of the visual effects in X2: X-MEN UNITED , as well as a special screening of the movie at Samuel Goldwyn Theater, Academy of Motion Picture Artists & Sciences, 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills, California. Artists from Cinesite and Rhythm & Hues will be on hand to discuss the creation of innovative effects from Nightcrawler's teleportation to Storm's tornados. Event is sponsored by Side Effects Software, whose Houdini 3D software was used extensively throughout the film.

The Australian Effects & Animation Festival is dedicated to the arts and creation of visual effects and animation. Australian visual effects guru Karen Ansel will be honored during the event. She has worked on such films as NUTTY PROFESSOR II: THE KLUMPS, FLUBBER, WHAT DREAMS MAY COME and THE MASK. The annual AEAF Awards night will occur on Tuesday, February 27 where industry professionals will be awarded for excellence in their fields. Aspiring Spielbergs! Here's your chance to show your film in major cinemas around Australia and the UK and at the same time raise money for The Big Issue who help the homeless and unemployed. The Festival is being held in November at Sydney's Valhalla, Melbourne's Cinema Nova, the Judith Wright Centre in Brisbane, Mercury cinema in Adelaide and the North of the UK for the sister festivals. There are 4 categories of entry:- Animation, Documentary, General and Novice.
