This year, Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival will be featuring its 13th international competition and 23rd French competition. Filmmakers and buyers can also take advantage of the short film market, which attracts more than 50 TV channels, 50 distributors and 60 international festival organizers. Last year's competition saw films from 44 countries. The 2001 addition will feature programs on South Korea, S & M and Fetish Films, Hitchcock, Spain, African Perspectives and a Children's Programme.

The Moondance International Film Festival is dedicated to promoting and encouraging female screenwriters, playwrights, short-story writers and independent filmmakers. Moondance provides a forum in which women can have the opportunity for their work to be viewed in front of the international film community. The festival encourages and promotes non-violence, as a solution to conflicts, in the arts and film. In 2001, the festival will honor Scandinavian women in film from Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Greenland.

Flickerfest is a short film festival that travels to various cities around Australia. Starting with a 7-day event in Sydney the event will take place in Kempsey, Canberra, Scone, Sawtell, Darwin, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Alice Springs and Byron Bay. The festival, now in its third year, has screened to audiences of over 10,000 people. Every year Flickerfest presents special programs of short films that showcase the work of specific regions.

MadCat International Women's Film Festival features independent and experimental works by women from around the world. MadCat is committed to showcasing women film and videomakers who challenge the use of sound and image and explore notions of visual storytelling. This year Madcat is embarking on its first touring festival with two programs of short films: Lost In Translation and Interior Worlds. All lengths and genres will be considered. Formats: Preview: 1/2" NTSC (VHS) standard preferred; Exhibition: 16mm, Super 8 film, VHS and 3/4". Entry Fees range from US$10.00 to $30.00 per entry (pay whatever you can afford!). The American Cinematheque and CAMEO are presenting a retrospective of animation from the Zagreb School. Directors Vatroslav Mimica and Zdenko Gaparovic will be on hand at the screening. The Zagreb School, which reached its peak in the 1960s, is considered one of the most modernist European animated film schools and produced some of the most important animated short films of its time. The screening will include: OPENING NIGHT by Nikola Kostelac; THE FLY by Aleksandar Marks and Vladimir Jutria; SMALL CHRONICLE by Vatroslav Mimica; SATIEMANIA by Zdenko Gaparovic; FISHEYE by Joko Maruic; THE CAT by Zlatko Bourek; Academy Award winner THE ERSATZ by Duan Vukotic; and LEARNING TO WALK by Borivij Dovnikovic.

The 2nd "Art & Animation" Conference & Screenings aims at stimulating attention on animation as an art form with a particular stress on independent short films of research, experimentation and artistic expression. Cinemagic 2000, Northern Ireland's International Film Festival for Young People, is an international conference and fair exploring the nature of entertainment and education for young people in the digital age.
