As part of the 10th anniversary of the mega Dubai Shopping Festival, the First International Animation Celebration Day will screen 200 animation films from U.S., Europe, Asia and the Middle East and will also showcase the international variety and quality of expertise involved in the making of animated films. With an interesting assortment of recent films, as well as retrospectives and historical ones, the event is tailored to appease the taste of all film-lovers across the age barrier.

An added interesting feature of the festivities will be the workshops being organized on how to make animation films. Expert Egyptian (Imprint) and Emirates (Emaritoons) based studios will train visitors in producing 2D and 3D animation, clay animation and puppets animation during the six-day celebrations. An art gallery will also be displaying paintings portraying the history of the animation industry in the world.

The goal of Hida International Animation Festival of Folktales and Fables 'The 2nd Animation Contest of Folktales and Fables' is to unearth promising animation artists in order to support them in their future endeavors. The contest will offer a place for animation artists to display their works as well as an opportunity to exchange ideas and techniques with other artists. The theme is for animated works created in a story-like format that correspond to folktales, fables, myths, legends and folkways that are conceived in nature or lifestyle, of the Hida. Any regions in the world are invited to enter this contest. Original animation works based on modern-day interpretations are also welcome. All entries must have a screening time that does not exceed 30 minutes, be completed within the last four years (since January 1st 2002), clearance for all music and characters and does not contain content that violates public order on standards and decency. Animations that have already been released either domestically or internationally are still eligible as well as entries that have received past awards at other festivals are also eligible. In such a case, documentation certifying each respective event date is required. First prize will win 4 billion Turkish lira, second place 3 billion, third place 1 billion and three special prize winners will received 500 million. The Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc. (ACPI) in coordination with the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), The French Embassy Manila, and the Japan Foundation Manila, is organizing the 1st Philippine International Animation Festival, with exhibits and business seminars at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, and creative workshops and film screening at SM Megamall. The 2004 Bangkok International Film Festival, the official film festival endorsed by the Royal Thai Government, will feature an estimated 150 films, special events, seminars and panels, as well as a competition in 9 different categories and the presentation of the second annual Golden Kinnaree Awards, the festival's award for excellence in International Filmmaking. One of the new highlights of festival will be its focus on ASEAN Cinema. This ASEAN (The Association of Southeast Asian Nations) section will feature films from the 10 South East Asian countries -- Thailand, Vietnam, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. The 2004' China International Cartoon and Digital Art Festival is sponsored and supported by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China. The main events of the festival will include: The China International Cartoon Competition and Awards Ceremony; screenings of Chinese and international cartoon films; forum on cartoon industry and cartoon art and the China International Cartoon Product Market from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1. The competition is open to cartoons from around the world in the following categories: short films, full-length films, television series, single TV programs, special TV programs, educational, scientific or industrial films, advertising and promotional films, animated program titles or clips, Internet short films, Internet film series and student or graduating works. To commemorate the 200th birthday in 2005 of great Danish fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen, a special "Andersen Fairy Tale Award" competition will be organized during the festival. The FREDERICK NEWS-POST hosts the 3rd Frederick Festival of Film. The goal of the event is to promote film, video and digital independent moviemaking in the greater Frederick and mid-Atlantic region, showcasing independent filmmakers and striving to educate the audience and deepen their appreciation for the art and craft of filmmaking. In addition to screening films, filmmakers are encouraged to introduce their films and participate in lively panel discussions and audience Q & A sessions. In addition, the event runs the 72-Hour Filmmaker contest. On September 10, teams of film crews shoot, edit and deliver a movie in just 72 hours. Completed films will be screened as the Premiere Night Gala on September 17. A 72 Hour Filmmaker achievement award will be given to the team judged to have the best film.
