WAC will showcase more than 800 films, including the best in both classic and contemporary animation. As the main attraction, WAC will present awards to the best new animated works from around the world. The World Animation Celebration will present a trade show, an international business conference, world and American film premieres, seminars, symposiums, tributes, salutes to new European animation, special programs on new computer animation and a survey of the world's best animated commercials. Cash prizes, awards and commissions will be presented to winners in categories that include feature and short films, television series, television specials, commercials, public service announcements, educational films, experimental animation, computer animation, and animation intended for children.

The Maui Film Festival highlights life-affirming and compassionate features, shorts, documentaries animation and screenplays. This unique event will spotlight new cutting-edge filmmaking talent from around the world, with a big focus on film schools and student filmmakers. There will be a series of screenings highlighting the work of the UK's major centers of filmmaking and a round-table discussion on "How To Promote Your Short Film To Maximum Effect." Films or videos made during or after June 1999 and up to 40 minutes in length are eligible for entry. All the films will be in competition.

The Chicago Underground Film Festival is designed to showcase the defiantly independent filmmaker. The festival's mission is to promote films and videos that dissent radically in form, technique or content from the "indie" mainstream presenting works that challenge and transcend commercial expectations. The festival will award cash prizes to films and videos selected by the jury as best in these categories: Feature, Short, Documentary, Animation, Experimental, Audience Choice and "made in Chicago." The Chicago Underground Film Fund has been established to provide completion funds for films that are in keeping with the festival's defiantly independent and deliberately scandalous spirit. Recipients are awarded grants of US$500-$2,000 in cash and services. The festival screening committee will select the films and videos. Notification of entries making the festival will be before July 1, 2000. Screening dates and times will be announced by July 15.

The Indiana Film and Video Festival celebrates independent film and video from Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio. Sponsored by the Indiana Film Society, the event is set up to encourage Midwest artists to create original films and videos. Winners are selected by the festival jury and share in cash prizes. The chosen films are screened at the festival and an audience prize and best of show award are given out on the night of the event. Winners have the chance to have their films aired on the TV series REEL TIME.

DancesWithFilms is a competitive event featuring a line-up of more than a dozen full-length narrative films and sixteen narrative shorts. DWF's mission is to open a venue for new and upcoming filmmakers to present their work without the fear of politics overshadowing their screen time. The criteria for entries are: 1. Is the person attached able to raise financing (even small sums) at any point based solely on the "name"? 2. Is the person attached able to open doors that might otherwise stay closed? (They do not exclude "working" persons in the industry.) The film must have been completed no later then January 1998.

The 8th International Short Film Festival Curtas Metragens celebrates works in animation, documentaries and fiction. All works submitted must be under 60 minutes in length. The festival gives grand prize awards in each of the three categories and honourable mentions that are selected by the jury. Awards are also given to best Portuguese film and young Portuguese filmmaker. An audience prize will be given by the votes of the attendees.

Cash awards include: one Grand Prize of US$10,000 and five First Prize awards of $1000 in each of the following categories: drama, comedy, documentary, animation and experimental. MadCat International Women's Film Festival features independent and experimental works by women from around the world. MadCat is committed to showcasing women film and videomakers who challenge the use of sound and image and explore notions of visual storytelling. This year Madcat is embarking on its first touring festival with two programs of short films: Lost In Translation and Interior Worlds. All lengths and genres will be considered. Formats: Preview: 1/2" NTSC (VHS) standard preferred; Exhibition: 16mm, Super 8 film, VHS and 3/4". Entry Fees range from US$10.00 to $30.00 per entry (pay whatever you can afford!). No fee is requested for international entrants.
