The Nashville Independent Film Festival (NIFF) will showcase the best in independent film and video featuring premiere screenings of award winning works, seminars, panel discussions and guest appearances by nationally recognized film/video makers. The festival is one of the few Academy Award qualifying festivals for animation. Adding to the Feature, Animation, Documentary, Short Film and Young Filmmaker categories, the festival has opened up some new categories this year: Television Pilot/Episodic Television, and Family and Children Films. Entry fees range from $10 to $50.

The 14th World Festival of Animated Films - Zagreb 2000 is an ASIFA sanctioned event dedicated to the art of animation. Categories are: work from 30 sec. to 6 min. long; work from 6 min. - 15 min. long; work 15min. to 30 min. long, and artists film debuts. Submissions can be sent on VHS tapes, but for screening a film print or a BETACAM SP PAL tape must be provided. Award with cash prizes will be given as follows: grand prize, a first prize in each time oriented catagories, and best first production.

The festival will have the following categories/programs: Computer Animation, International, Visions Canada, Children's Cinema and Midnight's Mania. Films must have been completed after June 1998, and not exceed 40 minutes. Films will be selected based on quality and originality. In conjunction with the festival, a marketplace will be set up for TV buyers, distributors, producers, exhibitors, development and acquisition executives and networks to view all films submitted on video. Over 1,600 videos will be included in the market catalogue.

The Hollywood Film Festival is currently accepting entries for its 4th annual festival.
Both short and long-form animated films are being accepted for the animation
category. Foreign language films must have subtitles. Entry fee for animation shorts:
$35 per film.

The Maui Film Festival prides itself on the presentation of life-affirming,
compassionate and transformative storytelling in exemplary films and digital cinema.
Features, shorts, documentaries and animation are accepted, as well as screenplays.
Special Events include: Silversword Lifetime Achievement Award, Filmmakers Panels,
Spirit of Aloha Audience Awards, Midnight VIP Cruise, Taste of Wailea and
Opening/Closing Galas.

The Crested Butte Reel Festival is a competitive short film festival with an animation, experimental and student category. The shorts must be under 40 minutes. There are cash awards, unusual "trophies" and industry exposure. The festival also presents filmmakers' panels and a director's workshop. Entry fees: regular entries, $30; student entries $20.

This Festival has six categories: features, shorts, TV fiction, cartoons, shorts and documentaries. One panel of judges will be composed of show business and communications professionals and the other by Internet users. The winning works will be presented on the Website for the rest of the year; the works that are not selected for the festival will be presented on-line for a limited period of time immediately after the event.

The New York Animation Festival, in collaboration with Video Lounge, presents Outer Limits, an international series of short animation, experimental, narrative and documentary film and video. Outer Limits will present a vast array of independent and innovative work from more than a dozen countries. An international program featuring animated films by Amy Kravitz (ROOST AND THE TRAP), Dana Behrman (PIGLATIN), Avi Katz (LAST WALTZ IN NEW YORK) and Sylvie Bringas and Orly Yadim (SILENCE) will be held on May 16 at 7:30 pm and May 18 at 9:30 pm. Also a program of new animation from Australia will be screened on June 2 at 7 pm, presented by Melbourne animator Rhian Hinkley. A program of recent Swiss Animation on June 16 at 9 pm and a retrospective of Swiss animator Georges Schwizgebel on June 17 at 7 pm will be presented by Fantoche International Animation Festival.

The American Digital Arts Festival is accepting entries in the following categories: Digital Filmmaking, Filmmaking w/ Digital Special Effects, Computer Animation, Digital Music, Digital Photography, Enhanced Scanned Photography, Digital Painting and Digital Graphics. Also, for youth age 17 & under, the festival presents The Digital Kids Fest as part of its program. Prizes are being furnished by Adobe, Deep Paint and MGI Software. First annual Zoomgo Film Fest 2000 is celebrating creativity, talent and achievement through the use of streaming media and the Internet. The festival will showcase works from around the world ranging from animations to shorts. There will be 100 films/animations selected and posted on the festival site where a panel of professionals from the Independent Film/Animation Industry will judge the top 10 voted films. There will be three overall cash awards: 1st place - US$5,000, 2nd place - $1,000 and 3rd place - $500. Voting will start on June 1, 2000 at zoomgo.com.
