With the highly anticipated Disney/Pixar film UP opening this weekend, Gallery Nucleus in Los Angeles is presenting a rare behind-the-scenes look at the production of the film with special guest artist Ronnie del Carmen. The artist, who served as story supervisor and lead story artist, will be on hand to present a plethora of process images and answer questions from the public. In addition to his major contributions to the film, Del Carmen is also the director of the animated short DUG'S SPECIAL MISSION, which will accompany the DVD release of UP and provide the back-story for the talking dog character. Expanding on his integral role, Del Carmen was also asked to illustrate the new book release MY NAME IS DUG. The Writers Guild Foundation has announced its annual summer screenwriting seminar to be held at the Writers Guild headquarters in Hollywood. Scheduled is a special one-day Masters Workshop on the subject of "Writing the Original Screenplay," featuring some of the industry's leading names in screenwriting. Screenwriters scheduled to speak thus far include: Naomi Foner (RUNNING ON EMPTY), Amy Holden Jones (INDECENT PROPOSAL), Dale Launer (MY COUSIN VINNY), Daniel Petrie, Jr. (BEVERLY HILLS COP), Howard Rodman (JOE GOULD'S SECRET), Eric Roth (FORREST GUMP), Tom Schulman (DEAD POETS SOCIETY), Ron Shelton (BULL DURHAM), Audrey Wells (UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN) and Mike White (SCHOOL OF ROCK). Members of Hollywood's executive suites appearing include Mikkel Bondesen of Bondsen-Graup Mgt. (THE O.C.), Maggie Field of Field-Cech Agency, Jenny Fritz of Broder Webb Chervin Silberman Agency, Tarquin Gotch, formerly of John Hughes Ent. (HOME ALONE) and Anne Rodman of Phoenix Pictures (HOLES). Opening and closing panels will take place in the Writers Guild's 120-seat Multi-purpose Room, supplemented by smaller intensive workshops. The Independent Games Festival (IGF) is open to all independent developers to submit their games -- whether on PC, console, digital download, Web browser, or other more exotic formats. The prizes for the 2008 event total nearly $50,000, including the $20,000 Seumas McNally Grand Prize. The complete lineup includes more than 40 judges, many of whom are returning for the fourth or fifth time to help evaluate this year's entries.
