The University of Washington is presenting a lecture by animation historian Giannalberto Bendazzi. The author of CARTOONS: 100 YEARS OF CINEMA ANIMATION will discuss "Classical Animation from the 1940s and 1950s: Building Historical and Stylistic Contexts for Contemporary Animation." The event will be held in Room 108, in the Student Union Building on the UW campus at 4:30 pm. The lecture is sponsored by the Animation Research Labs and the Department of Computer Science & Engineering.

Animation 2001 is sponsored by the University of Teesside and will bring together animation greats to teach and discuss the craft. On Thursday speakers will include the Bolex Brothers, Michael Dudok DeWit, Aardman Animations' Helen Brundson, Cosgrove Hall's John Doyle and Colin Davies, Folimage's Pascal LeNotre and animation legend Bob Godfrey. After lunch, Ed Hooks will conduct his "Acting for Animators" masterclass, Davies will run a workshop on writing for animation and Andy Wheeler will hold a seminar on getting a job. On Friday the speakers will be Ed Hooks, Rushes' Mike Uden, The Mill's Dave Throssell, FrameStore's Alex Parkinson and Andy Daffy, and Ray Harryhausen. After lunch, Hooks will run another masterclass, Cosgrove Hall's Jon Rashid will conduct an animating with Flash workshop and the festival will also hold a 3D digital animation techniques workshop highlighting Avid Softimage and XSI.
