Deadline extended for ANIMA2011 - VI Córdoba International Animation Festival!

Starts: May 12, 2011 - Ends: May 27, 2011
Submission Deadline: May 27, 2011
Location: Cordoba, Cordoba, Argentina
Website: http://www.animafestival.com.ar

The deadline for ANIMA2011 has been extended until May 27th, 2011!!!

ANIMA - Córdoba International Animation Festival is both an academic and cultural event, devoted specifically to animation in its artistic and technological dimensions. ANIMA merges the energy, enthusiasm and joy of an Animation Festival with the scientific aspects of a Conference. Held every odd year since 2001, ANIMA is the main animation event in Argentina and a very influential player in its field in Latin America and the Caribbean.

ANIMA is no ordinary event. Its main objective is to gather creative individuals devoted to the art and craft of animation into a meeting point where all discussion and exchange can be directed into the scope of animation, in its many dimensions of analysis: as artistic expression, as cultural industry, as educational resource, as corpus for research, etc… Or just as fun!

ANIMA is composed by three superimposed dimensions:

It’s an ANIMATION FESTIVAL: ANIMA’s 2009 edition screened 130 films (feature and shorts) selected from a pool of 825 submissions from 53 countries. Guests and Jurors in former editions include prestigious animators from abroad, to name a few: Academy Award nominee Barry Purves (UK), Academy Award nominee Christopher Hinton (Canada), Academy Award nominee Caroline Leaf (USA). Most of the finest Argentinian animators have also been guests and Jurors in the Festival: Juan Pablo Zaramella, Javier Mrad, Pablo Rodríguez Jáuregui, among many others.

It’s an OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN FROM THE BEST: ANIMA aims to bring in depth and high – end educational opportunities to its audience. Seminars, workshops and short courses are organized, centered on a variety of topics dedicated to specific animation aesthetics and technology, and are conducted by prestigious professionals in the area, such as the forementioned guests, Rodolfo Sáenz Valiente (Argentina), Walter Tournier (Uruguay), Giannalberto Bendazzi (Italy) and many more.

It’s a CONFERENCE: ANIMA’s Academic Forum is the only specific Conference on Animation held in Latin America. It holds an open call for papers, video presentations and posters on animation, that undergo double peer – reviewing by an Academic Committee for selection and publication.

ANIMA2011 will be held on October 6th through 8th, 2011. Deadline for submission of film entries is on May 27th, 2011. Deadline for submission of papers, posters and audiovisual presentations is on June 17th, 2011.

KEIICHI TANAAMI ANIMATION RETROSPECTIVE
SATURDAY, APRIL 23, 8 PM

Cinecycle (behind 129 Spadina Ave, in laneway) - Toronto, Ontario

Screening in Toronto for the first time, these 10 animated works offer an introduction to Tanaami’s various styles and a trip through the eye-popping world of free form Japanese psychedelia. This event will also celebrate his newest release, A Portrait of Keiichi Tanaami: 14 Films 1975-2009, a beautiful edition containing a hard cover book with never-before published drawings for animated films, 14 films from 1975-2009, and two documentaries about the man himself, available for purchase at the screening.

Keiichi Tanaami, born in 1936, is one of the preeminent pop artists of postwar Japan, producing a broad range of works since the 60s including experimental film and animation, woodblock printing, illustration, and editorial design. Tanaami’s imagery is provocative and playful, rooted in the realm of avant garde 60s pop psychedelia. In 1967 Tanaami took his first trip to New York where he discovered the works of Andy Warhol. These experiences opened him up to new artistic directions and in 1975 he became the first Art Director of Playboy Monthly (Japanese Edition). He has worked as a professor at Kyoto University of Art and Design since 1991, and his work continues to be exhibited around the world.

This event is a fundraiser to aid the victims of the earthquake in Japan and has been made possible by the generosity of: Keiichi Tanaami, CaRTe bLaNChe, Toronto Animated Image Society, and CineCycle.

All proceeds will go to the Red Cross Japan Earthquake Fund
