Sprocket Ensemble CD Celebration

To celebrate the release of the new Nik Phelps and the Sprocket Ensemble CD "Fetch," Sprocket Ensemble is holding a musical animation party. The CD features songs from the group's popular animation/music shows at the Minna St. Gallery. Musicians on the CD include violinists Carla Kihlstedt and Irene Sazer, singer Connie Champagne, bassist Matt Small, tubist Zachariah Spellman and eclectic horn Nik Phelps. New films by Sandra Gibson and Chris Lanier will be screened, along with David Michalak's film INNA MINNA. Admission is US$10 general and $7 for students.

Academy Screens Oscar-Winning Animated Films

Another not-to-be-missed screening is happening in the Los Angeles area. As a companion to the Academy's upcoming art exhibit "Oscars in Animation - 7 Decades of Animation Art," the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Standards Screening Series will present 12 animated short films on Friday, August 16, 2002 at 8:00 pm in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater. X2 Presentation & Screening at L.A. ACM SIGGRAPH Meeting

The Los Angreles Chapter meeting of SIGGRAPH will feature "making of" presentations of the visual effects in X2: X-MEN UNITED , as well as a special screening of the movie at Samuel Goldwyn Theater, Academy of Motion Picture Artists & Sciences, 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills, California. Artists from Cinesite and Rhythm & Hues will be on hand to discuss the creation of innovative effects from Nightcrawler's teleportation to Storm's tornados. Event is sponsored by Side Effects Software, whose Houdini 3D software was used extensively throughout the film.

Tirana International Film Festival

Tirana International Film Festival is the first and the only international cinema festival in Albania created in 2003. TIFF has received invitation to become member of the European Coordination of Film Festivals (ECFF), by next September. Consequently, TIFF aims to respect the Code of Ethics deriving from ECFF. This extraordinary event for Albania takes place under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports and Tirana City-Hall.
