ANIMAC: the International Annual Spanish Animation Show is devoted to promoting the art of animation. The five-year-old event is a joint venture between the School of Fine Arts of Lleida and the Lleida Culture Department. ANIMAC 2001 wants to celebrate the capability of animation to mix with many other artistic disciplines such as music, painting, photography, performances, digital arts, graphic design and others. The event includes film and video screenings, retrospectives and theme screenings. Besides the films screened on the big screen, visitors will have the chance to view all the films entered in the festival in private screening booths. This year's graphic image of ANIMAC has been created by award winning illustrator and animator Carles Porta.

The Alias|Wavefront User Group will be presenting artists from Digital Domain. Come and see how Digital Domain has used Maya for the Experience Music Project, in their special venue and commercial divisions and on HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS. In addition, Kino Gil will show how Arete's Pyro for Maya was used for a volcano effect in a Backstreet Boys music video. The Gnomon School of Visual Effects and HighEnd.com are hosting the event. A meet and greet session will start at 6:30 pm with the presentation beginning at 7:30 pm.

The American Cinematheque and the World Animation Festival are sponsoring a screening of Czech animator Karel Zeman's work. Zeman's work as an animator and special effects artist stretched from the 1940s to the 1960s. He worked on such films as THE FABULOUS WORLD OF JULES VERNE (1958) and BARON MUNCHAUSEN (1961).

RIT Thesis Screenings
