Artist, curator, nonprofit veteran, and CalArts faculty member Karen Atkinson will once again teach her famed survival workshop series for emerging and mid-career artists working in the Greater L.A. area. For years, Get Your Sh*T Together was only available to students at CalArts. Thanks to continued support from LA Cultural Affairs, Side Street Projects is proud to offer this vital workshop once again to artists from all disciplines that need to get their sh*t together. The event will provide attendees with information and resources to make things happen for themself. Learn how to tap-into systems of support designed to help you practice your craft without selling your soul. Explore theoretical and practical issues, questions of professionalism, ethics, funding, project management, and the nuts & bolts survival strategies every working artist needs to know. The workshop is open to artists from all disciplines: visual arts, film & video, theatre, dance, writing, music, performance, etc. All participants receive a mammoth 400-page class reader chock-full of information, forms and resources, grant info, templates, etc. Space is extremely limited. John Canemaker Hosts LACMA Mary Blair Lecture

Animation historian John Canemaker will appear at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art with a colorfully illustrated multimedia presentation: THE ART AND FLAIR OF MARY BLAIR, based on his new Disney Editions book. The 7:30 pm lecture/demo will be followed by a book signing, plus a rare 35mm screening of Disney's ALICE IN WONDERLAND, the 1951 cartoon feature principally art directed by Mary Blair. Using nearly 300 illustrations, Canemaker will describe the art and life of Blair, a prolific and gifted designer/colorist who was one of the few woman artists to reach the top creative rungs at the Disney studio. She profoundly influenced the color and design of many classic Disney animated features, including THE THREE CABALLEROS, CINDERELLA and PETER PAN, as well as theme park attractions, most notably the "It's A Small World" boat ride created for the 1964 New York World's Fair.
