The National Post Design Exchange Awards competition is Canada's only awards program to judge design by balancing function, aesthetics and economic success. These awards are designed to: expand national understanding of design as an essential resource, demonstrate that investment in design impacts overall business success, celebrate effectiveness in all design disciplines, highlight the critical role of design in enhancing quality of life, reinforce the value of strong client/designer partnerships and promote the critical role of design in sustainability. A jury of leading business executives, designers and community leaders will select up to three winners in each of seven categories. Like actors and dancers, animators craft expression through movement. Laban Movement Analysis can help animators understand what makes movement expressive. Knowing how to create meaning through movement can help animators clarify the intent of their animated characters, create dramatic impact and enhance story through dynamic character acting.



This is an invitation to animators, inbetweeners, character designers, mocap directors, art directors, game and level designers who work with movement of the human figure and have a strong interest in pushing the expressiveness of their characters further.

The Labyrinth will be holding The Animation Road Show featuring a huge selection of discount books. Categories include animation books, illustrated kids books, artist sketchbooks, art instruction books, manga, comics, anime art books, toys, wall scrolls, artist reference and fine art books. The Labyrinth is run by Jessica and Dan Merisanu. Dan works as a character animator in downtown Toronto. A graduate of Sheridan's classical and computer animation -- he helps pick out the titles. This workshop is open to beginners and high school students who are planning to appy to any visual arts program.

Life Drawing: This course introduces students to drawing the human figure. It focuses on basic exercises in gesture, contour, weight and modelled drawing using varied materials: pencil, ink, charcoal and conte.

Perspective and Structural Drawing: This course helps students develop skills in the basic mechanics of linear perspective. Perspective drawing is concerned with achieving a sense of space, depth, and the third dimension within the limits of the flat drawing surface.

Principles of Drawing: This course will teach students how to express 3-dimensional form using shape, line and tonal pattern.
