ANIMATION CLUB!!! presents 'Secret Handshake', a monthly animation night at Loop Bar in Melbourne. Each month, animators from all around the world create a short animation upon a given topic which is then screened and voted upon by the audience. The winner receives fame and glory... and gets to choose the next month's topic. All animation styles are welcome - from hand-drawn, flash, claymation, stop motion, pixellation - or any combination of these. However - it MUST be animated! No live action allowed! Important:
Please be aware that admission is restricted to 18+ (except for Kids & Official Opening /International Program #1). Film classification regulations in Australia require all films to either be formally classified or restricted to an audience of 18 years of age and over. Most festivals do not have the resources to do this and it for this reason alone that we are not able to admit any person under the age of 18 years to the main AIAF screenings.

Kids Program – Specifically programmed towards 4 – 7 year olds whilst still entertaining more mature patrons, this screening gives children the world’s best animation for a just $5! Pricing includes adults.

The workshops are free for anyone to attend but may contain mature content.

7th Byron Bay International Film Festival March 1st to 10th 2013

The 2013 BBFF will screen for 10 days in beautiful sub-tropical Byron Bay. The first place in Australia to see the sun, Byron Bay provides an exotically beautiful backdrop for the festival,  with world-class beaches only a short stroll from the venue. BBFF provides an opportunity for filmmakers to present their work at a truly distinctive film festival.

This Festival attracts International filmmakers, directors, producers, performers, cultural tourists and prominent members of Australia’s film industry, not to mention a wealth of appreciative audience members. The range of films and genres screened are diverse and dynamic. 

The festival’s organisers are passionate about supporting independent filmmakers in all stages of their careers. They firmly believe in the creation of positive opportunities to showcase the fresh and amazing works of talented creatives to an open intelligent audience as well as to some well connected highly respected Judges.

The festival features an award for the Best Young Australian Filmmaker and is open to Australian Directors and Producers under 25. It also offers young Australian filmmakers reduced entry fees for their films. All accepted Filmmakers are encouraged to attend the festival.

Through-out 5 venues BBFF2012 featured 47 public screenings many of which featured introductions and Q & A sessions by attending filmmakers, free workshops & panels, industry networking functions, Schools Screenings, family-friendly films, free showcases of experimental films plus a popular a balcony bar for the audience to mix with filmmakers. The festival hosted 16 World Premieres, 107 Australian Premiere’s, and over 200 films from 39 countries. Two highlights of the Festival are always the Gala Red Carpet Opening and Closing Nights with catered parties which always attract full houses.

All films entered will automatically be considered for nomination in any award categories that the film might qualify for during the selection process. BBFF awards include but are not limited to Best Film,
Documentary, Short Film, Drama, Cinematography, Surf Film, Animation, Experimental Film, Environmental Film, Music Video, Best Young Australian Filmmaker (open to Australian Director’s under 25) & an award for the Best Local Film. Filmmakers are encouraged to use the

Anima, the International Animation Festival, will take place in Flagey, Brussels, from 20th to 28th February 2009 The latest feature from Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, PONYO ON THE CLIFF BY THE SEA, will be the opening film for Anima 2009. A selection of sneak previews to discover the latest WALLACE AND GROMIT: A MATTER OF LOAF AND DEATH, three new NARUTO features and the first images from much awaited projects like PANIQUE AU VILLAGE or GASTON LAGAFFE. There will be 200 films in the international competition (shorts and features, commercials, music videos) or in panorama, as well as a competition and a Belgian focus to take the pulse of animation in all its entertaining, creative and prospective dimensions. Bill Plympton will be a festival guest, along with Samuel Lord Black, Steven Woloshen and many others, who are visiting Anima to present their films or take part in the "Futuranima" professional days. The retrospectives will be a merry mix of genres, delving into animation's history or the latest hot news, with films by American director Ralph Bakshi (FRITZ THE CAT, LORD OF THE RINGS, FIRE AND ICE) rubbing shoulders with the most recent work selected at the Computer Animation Festival at SIGGRAPH 2008. The Zagreb studios, the Channel 4 years, early work by French filmmakers Ocelot, Girerd and Laguionie and a focus on Nick Park's old school the National Film and Television School will complete this great line-up. The 2009 edition will also be looking at the relationship animation has with comic books in the "Bruxelles BD" event, with sneak previews, a cosplay, artist performances and the "From Strip to Screen" exhibition. There's also a "Cosplay" competition with lots of prizes to win, giving Anima visitors the chance to attend the event dressed as their favourite characters. A meeting with Bill Plympton, a one-day workshop given by Kyle Balda (formerly of Pixar), workshops for the children, the Futuranima professional days, round table discussions, the "Nuit animee", the Cartoon d'Or and a closing ceremony with VJay will make Brussels the most animated place to be in 2009. From December 3-10, film fans flock to Leuven. For the 17th year straight, the International Short Film Festival Leuven offers a broad and very colorful selection of the best short film has to offer. Expect hundreds of new shorts, animation films, videos, documentaries and innovative cross-overs, selected out of thousands of international entries. The festival is a round-up of a great year in cinema, but also looks at the future. Besides being a platform for the short film medium, it also acts as a major talent hunt, where tomorrow’s filmmakers are able to present their first professional productions.

Festival Highlights

EUROPE IN SHORTS: Sundance, Clermont Ferrand, Regensburg, Hamburg, Locarno… our festival team travelled all over the world in search of the very best European short films. Once home, we go through over 2000 entries and select only forty, the cream of the crop of European shorts. The European competition shows films from over 17 countries.  In the non-competitive programmes dozens of new European shorts will be screened, in sections as "The Labo", "Short Films for Children", "Animation Nations" and "Finest Irish Shorts".MILESTONES IN SHORT FILM HISTORY: Milestones in Short Film History” is a collection of the most influential short films made throughout a century of cinematic history. It entails thirty movies produced between 1900 en 2000 that are typical of certain movements and evolutions in movie history or that introduced new techniques, procedures, styles, genres or directors. Together with the programma, the ISFFL presents a publication with the same title (Dutch-English) in witch all films are discussed.SHORT FILM COMPETITION:The ISFFL organises a Flemish and European Short Film Competition in which audience awards and jury awards are being granted. Besides the ISFFL awards the Flanders Audiovisual Fund grants 5 “Wildcards” for new Flemish film talent. The value of the prizes reaches almost 300.000 euro. The winners are announced at the award ceremony, on the last day of the festival, December 10thINDUSTRY ACTIVITIES: Each year, the International Short Film Festival welcomes countless young filmmakers and film professionals from all over the world. This edition boasts quite a few professional activities this year: an info session about Crowdfunding (organised by MEDIA Desk Flanders and SACD), a 2-day seminar about the Short Film in Flanders, a lecture by the Danish-American short film professor Richard Raskin “Story Design in Short fiction Film” and many more.
