The 23rd Israel Film Festival, the largest showcase of Israeli films in the United States, will screen 60 Israeli features, documentaries and award-winning student films, including 13 U.S., West Coast and Los Angeles premieres, in Los Angeles from June 12-26, 2008.
In honor of Israel's 60th anniversary, the festival will host an unprecedented retrospective of classic Israeli movies, including all seven Israeli films nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film.
The Gala Awards Dinner, on Wednesday, June 11 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel, will include IFF Award Presentations to Jeffrey Berg (Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of International Creative Management, Inc.), Kirk Douglas (Academy Award-winning actor, noted producer and best-selling author), Menahem Golan (one of the most significant Founding Fathers of the Israeli film industry), Carl Reiner (the quintessential man of comedy) and Rob Reiner (actor, director, producer). For the first time ever, a portion of funds raised from the Gala will support scholarships for Israeli students to study cinema in six major film schools in Israel.
The festival's opening night on June 12 at the Cinerama Dome at the ArcLight Hollywood will be the U.S. premiere of THE SECRETS, directed by Avi Nesher and starring Fanny Ardant, Ania Bukstein and Michal Shtamler. A reception with the director and guest filmmakers from Israel will follow.
The spotlight premiere screening of NOODLE, directed by Ayelet Menahemi and starring Mili Avital, will be screened on June 14 at Laemmle's Royal Theatre. All other films in the Festival will screen at three locations: Laemmle's Sunset 5 (Sunset Blvd. at Crescent Heights); Laemmle's Royal Theatre (11523 Santa Monica Blvd. in West Los Angeles); and Laemmle's Fallbrook 7 (5731 Fallbrook Avenue, San Fernando Valley).
