MadCat International Women's Film Festival features independent and experimental works by women from around the world. MadCat is committed to showcasing women film and videomakers who challenge the use of sound and image and explore notions of visual storytelling. This year Madcat is embarking on its first touring festival with two programs of short films: Lost In Translation and Interior Worlds. All lengths and genres will be considered. Formats: Preview: 1/2" NTSC (VHS) standard preferred; Exhibition: 16mm, Super 8 film, VHS and 3/4". Entry Fees range from US$10.00 to $30.00 per entry (pay whatever you can afford!). No fee is requested for international entrants.

Flickerfest is a short film festival that travels to various cities around Australia. Starting with a 7-day event in Sydney the event will take place in Kempsey, Canberra, Scone, Sawtell, Darwin, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Alice Springs and Byron Bay. The festival, now in its third year, has screened to audiences of over 10,000 people. Every year Flickerfest presents special programs of short films that showcase the work of specific regions.

The Moondance International Film Festival is dedicated to promoting and encouraging female screenwriters, playwrights, short-story writers and independent filmmakers. Moondance provides a forum in which women can have the opportunity for their work to be viewed in front of the international film community. The festival encourages and promotes non-violence, as a solution to conflicts, in the arts and film. In 2001, the festival will honor Scandinavian women in film from Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Greenland.

The 16th Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market allows short filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their work to an international audience of distributors, buyers and producers who are searching for new talent and content. The market offers viewing areas of more than 3,000 new titles and special screenings. The 700-page market catalogue highlights the films presented at the market. The event gives industry professionals a chance to meet and work on setting up future deals. The European Union MEDIA programme is a supporter of the market.

The Texas Film Festival is the largest student-run festival in the U.S. The festival focuses on the artistic and educational aspects of film and video and welcomes works by students and novices, as well as more well-known filmmakers. The event offers addresses and informal workshops with the artists. Some of the past guests have included Spike Lee, Oliver Stone and Robert Rodriguez.

The ASIFA International board of directors is inviting all representatives of ASIFA national groups and individual members to attend an open ASIFA meeting, to be held during the upcoming Annecy festival (June 4-9, 2001). The meeting will happen on June 6, 2001 from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm in the Jumel Room, Quai des Clarisses (near the Pierre Lamy theater). Flashbang announces FLASHBANG 3, the third installation and screening of cinematic and interactive Flash films. The event will feature cinematic Flash films shown on the big screen, as well as kiosks allowing attendees to explore interactive Flash media up close and personal. All films will also be added to flashbangonline.com after the show. Along with Flash based media, submissions of non-motion digital art will also be accepted for viewing in Eleven50's gallery the evening of the event. Digital art submissions may be anything including digital illustrations, Photoshop art, 3D stills, motion graphics stills, etc.

The Melbourne International Animation Festival is a non-competitive international festival showcasing Australian and Melbourne animation. The festival will be comprised of the best of the world's most recent animation, retrospectives, kid's films, other specialized screenings, a small number of animated feature length films, talks and other events around the city. Submissions are welcomed and all films will be selected by a jury.

The Los Angeles Guild of Puppetry is holding its first Puppet Short Film and Video Festival. See some of your favorites, some oldies, some you've never heard of and have some lovely Japanese food too! Admission is free. The event will run from 7:00 pm to approximately 9:30 pm.
